Except we've proven there is no PCV problem. If there were, the Ecoboost would be a sludge prone motor or we'd be blowing engine gaskets. Neither of which are true. We'd also see these components in elevated levels in oil samples. Which we don't. We've got 1 guy stating there is a PCV issue on the Ecoboost. That's all.

We've also not gone through a summer with catch can experience. Which is when these incidents occur.

So the catch can is a solution in search of a problem on the Ecoboosts.

I've read some of this thread, but not all of it. So my question might have been answered already.

I know there are benefits to drilling the hole (on the bottom driver's side is where I think I've read) but are there any drawbacks to drilling it? IE warranty issues or issues with passing emissions testing here in Illinios? With all that yellow-brownish gunk coming out of it all the time won't it be easy to spot say when I'm getting the oil changed at the dealership?

I'm intrigued by this mod but not sure if I'll be opening a can of worms I really don't want to mess with by doing so.

I would wait till after your out of warranty. Never know what the dealership will void.

No Ill effects that are known.

I wouldn't do it until your out of warranty. Just drive it hard and get a good heat sink on it and then work the turbos. That's what it's made to do and you'll be fine...

Reading this thread in its entirety is self educational.

It's warmer weather here and raining like a garden water system today.

Well I feel somewhat vindicated. This guy made several 0-80 wot runs and still drained clear water from his intercooler. Not snot, not oil, not fuel, not yellow chunks...water.

Also to note is that wot is NOT the most likely time condensate will accrue due to air velocity and lack of cooling. It's much more likely cruising at interstate speeds for long periods.

I could make mine do it at will in two areas that I drove all the time. One is an area that I'd have a 41 mile stretch on the interstate. After I'd exit, it would happen as I would try to accelerate from a stop. The only time it ever happened to me on heavy throttle was during towing

So...given we're just coming out of an all time super **** winter here whereby -40 degrees was the norm...

Is it safe to say that the ecoboost performs better in colder drier climates than warm moist climates?

I've gotten the odd CEL with mine under extreme cold temps but its always gone away after a couple of starts and the truck runs like a charm.

I've lived thru 3 northern Canadian winters with 2 different ecoboost trucks and never seen a check engine light at any time, extreme cold or not.
It uses more fuel (naturally) and really sucks it back until engine and tranny get up to temperature. It's quite obvious this motor runs a safe rich mixture in extreme cold while warming up. I always remote start mine 5 - 10 minutes before travelling in below freezing temps.
I've never had condensation shudder, 2 thousand kilometers ago I drilled the drain hole in the CAC. Nothing but a few drops of clear brown oil came out. Nothing since either, hole was dry as a desert.
This truck is a 2013 with 5000kms on it now.
I think dry cold weather helps keep the CAC empty of water condensate. I drilled the hole before starting the truck on the first morning above freezing after 2 months of extreme cold where it never got close to above freezing. Nothing.
Spring is coming so I will keep an eye on what comes out of the hole now.
