I'm moving to Minot, ND next month where the other day it was -56F with the wind chill. I ordered an OEM block heater and battery blanket for my ecoboost and received them in the mail today. The battery blanket is simple, however after endless searching I have found no information for installing the cartridge style block heater or how the wiring harness is routed. The one pictures below is all have to go off of. The first one I provided shows the heater element and harness I just received and other is apparently the location the element goes according to another member. Can someone with some knowledge of this please help me out. Lucas Ford in Burlington, NJ is clueless! First the parts salesman told me they didn't make a block heater for my truck and the service department told me it would take 2hrs labor and require antifreeze ...

Thank you for braving the elements for these pics. This thread is already 1000% better than what I've found on any other website and I've been searching for months! I'll be attempting this once the "polar votex" heads back up your way... Be sure to keep you posted and take pics along the way, as I know others will be interested after this cold spell.. FYI, according to my Ford parts manager, these OEM block heaters are on national back-order.. Good thing wind chill doesn't affect equipment, dontcha know! (little bit of MN-ese for you..)

Funny that this came up, I just picked up a replacement value for my wife's truck as it was damaged last winter.

You will need a touch of coolant though as the freeze plug is located at a low point.

No freeze plug on the Ecoboost. It's a cartridge style heater which installs into a dry socket. Zero fluid loss and no mess during installation.

Never knew they sold these trucks without a block heater and battery blanket. I guess its an option

What should I lube the heater element with if anything to ease installation/removal and prevent oxidation? Dielectric grease or silicone spray work?
