Funny you say "out west". That's what folks say about Wyoming... even if they're from farther WEST than Wyoming.

When we're there in January we anticipate below zero temps overnight each day. We were there during November last year, and while not the bitter cold (yet), everything 'liquid' in our car froze solid (soda, a.c. vinegar, water; everything).

I don't know if I have the OEM plug in. I can't make heads or tails of the photos above (too small). I guess I'll have to drop my RCIs and have a look for myself - but I still don't know what I'm looking for.

SF politics: I do not participate. At all. No way, no how. We just got back from a month away camping/overlanding in the Yukon and Alaska. BOY what a breath of fresh air that was (both literally and figuratively)!

Too funny about the out west comment. Ha you are right (no pun intended with the politics). Just because it's below freezing and a couple of drinks freeze, it's not necessarily cold. If it's below -10 WITHOUT windchill or colder, then you are starting to benefit from a heater. If you have one you will easily see the plug (just like you would plug into an electric socket) right in front. Most trucks sold in upper midwest have one. But even sold around omaha and south don't have them unless special ordered.

If it was me, I'd just make sure I had good synthetic oil before my trip "out west". Lol.

My go-to oil for the last 19 years has been Mobil 1. Nothing else. I run 10w30 in my EcoBoost. It will get -30 to -40 in Jackson Hole out by the airport in December and January. Sometimes in February.

I just want to be prepared for the worst case scenario. I'd rather spend the $ than WISH I had.
