I didn't know a block heater kept the interior warm... I think OP should get the factory remote start and let the truck warm itself up. Gassers warm up rather quick and easily these days.

By using a block heater it does a few things...heats up the coolant which in turn gets heat into the interior of the truck faster but more importantly it helps keep the oil warm so it flows easier and faster.

Trust me after sitting for a while at -40 or colder you won't like the sound your truck makes when it starts up and takes between 5 and 30 seconds for the oil to flow through the heads.... Not good

Remote start won't help if the oil is too thick for it to start. Think of molasses in your freezer. Up here in the north the block heater was standard. Definitely worth it in a cold climate.

I live in northern Canada, not to far from the Yukon border, and a block heater extends engine life up here, a few times last winter it got so cold that my car had no power steering and the clutch fluid was frozen. So block heaters really are worth it.

if you are in zero to negative weather get a block heater... coming from a guy that lived in alaska for some years it is worth it. Plus if it is that cold, thick oil is a big problem.

I personally don't like to remote start all the time, although a nice feature idling ten minutes every morning and or afternoon to go home destroys gas mileage.

I use to plug my F250 in even here in GA in the winter time. The 6.0 has HEUI injection so thick oil is bad bad bad. Plus it warms up faster both truck and interior wise.

I'd hardly count 45* in January freezing in Houston.

On Topic,

I plan on getting the remote start from Ford. The past few years it's only been as low as -17 a day or two here in Jersey.

I was talking with my ford dealer and he was saying ford should be coming out with the hardware to use the ford smartphone app to remote start your truck sometime in the third quarter of this year. He said count on late August to early September .
