Except it is not going to be a Cummins diesel, it is going to be a Fiat design....I think a lot of people are going to make that mistake of assuming it is a Cummins.

The 3.0 Cherokee and 2.8(I believe) liberty weren't the most reliable either

The ability to order a 3.0 diesel in a Cherokee started around 7 August 2013, not sure if any have hit the streets yet.

The diesel is coming from VM Motori. Fiat owns 50%, not outright.

The VM 3.0 is about 4 years old so I have no idea what you are comparing.

The VM 3.0 in the Jeep has just been introduced this model year for Jeep and Ram. Ordering for a VM 3.0 in the Jeep was just started in the beginning of August and as far as I know none have hit the streets yet.

Get on the correct scorecard.

I think I figured out your error, you are referring to the Mercededs-Benz produced 3.0. The two are totally unrelated so see my statement right above

I believe Europe imports as much as 10% of the diesel we produce if the C&D article on this subject that was written a few years ago is still correct. Diesel prices were not always higher than petrol in the states, and there are now times when I see diesel selling for $1 or higher over the cost of 87 octane.
Here is a quote from Petro Canada's website, "Ultra low sulphur diesel fuel (ULSD) is fuel that contains less than 15 parts per million sulphur. It is usually used for both on-road and off-road applications. Since Oct. 1, 2010, all on-road and off-road diesel fuel in Canada, except for rail and marine applications, must be ULSD."

I had a 2008 Grand Cherokee that had a 3.0L Mercedes turbo diesel. It was awesome! I also had a 2006 Liberty with the 2.8L VM Motori turbo diesel. It was awesome too. More "diesel like" for sure. The Merc engine was smooth as silk and you honestly wouldn't know it was a diesel if I didn't tell you. I had a tune on it and that sucker laid down 444ft/lbs of torque at 1400rpm at the wheels and turned in about 26mpg on the highway. It was awesome!!
