yeah, my first post was a jab at some EB owners (and yes, I should have known better) but I'd like to think I pointed out some valid points that may or may not be an issue for the OP. I actually was trying to be helpful in a few posts.

and if you truly did not give a rats **** about what anyone thought about their engine, you would have left out that entire paragraph. The mere act of posting it proves that it bothered you enough to comment. (and for the record, there are just as many EB owners acting like idiots in this thread as there are 5.0 owners...in the future, I will try not to stoop to the level I have in the past.)

Maybe you're right. Maybe you're wrong. Just pick the side you want to be on. I can say your right if it makes you feel better. I am not saying to stop posting about the EB-5.0 debate because it is pretty funny. It just sucks that just about every thread that has nothing to do with comparisons gets turned unto an EB vs 5.0 debate when there are a bunch of EB vs 5.0 threads already up. All I am just saying is post it their, not here.

Pro
The EB is based on a Diesel engine design with direct injection, high compression, and turbos, however it runs on gasoline and has a spark ignition instead of heat compression.

Because of this the engine produces more HP and much more torque than any V8 presently can. With tuning that can increase the amount of fuel and spark/valve timing, HP increases in 10's instead of 2's can be easily achieved.

On a diesel it is just a matter of some tuning on the PCM to easily gain 80 HP at the flywheel, Stock! The same thing can be done on the EB motor due to the design of the motor. And like a Diesel, upping the injectors can see huge HP gains. Why? Because that is how this motor was designed.

Con
Because of the design, intake problems have been known to occur with DI gas motors where the intakes gunk up. So far I haven't seen any reports of the Ford EB having this problem, so Ford may have licked that problem.

The gunking occur when oil fumes from the crankcase ventilation deposit in the heads near the valves. On a normal engine, the fuel vapor keeps this area clean, but since no fuel flows through the intake, there isn't any solvents to keep it clean.

Another Con
the EB is so much fun to drive, in that you stomp the go pedal and you GO! and unless you can keep your foot out of it and drive sensibly, you wont see the quoted MPG ratings.

I traded a Flex EB in for the F150 EB I have now, and my lifetime average was 18.5 MPG. Had I been able to keep my foot out of the fun factor I could easily see 20 MPG in it. In fact the last trip I took from my work to the dealer, a 40 mile trip, I averaged 24 MPG.
The F150 isnt even near 500 miles yet, so I really dont know what it's potential MPG range it. So far I am hovering around 15 MPG, and in the city driving I am seeing the eco gauge at over 20 MPG, and rural highways just under 20 MPG, but my drives have not been long cruises, but instead lots of hills, turns, stops, up to 55 MPH, then some city driving at 35 MPH. Good for the break in period, bad for fuel economy.

To sum it up, the pro's outweigh the cons that I found. As a powerplant, it can't be beat, as fun factor, can't be beat, for egotistical purposes, if you feel that the sound of a V6 is girlie, stay away, for those who don't give a **** what it sounds like and for the most part, only those behind you will hear it, you know, the V8 crowd, then the EB is for you.
