The tune gives you more power! so the engine in theory should have to work LESS!

Lose the tune and see what is really going on. Otherwise, a cooling system upgrade is the obvious solution... And by that I don't mean the thermostat lol.

I take threads like this as a waste of energy, the truck is modded, and the OP doesn't want to deal with the results.
if you read the rest of the thread than you saw that a good chunk or most of us are not modded.

A tune makes more power by working every applicable component harder. That generates more heat.....

I guess this is one thing that has concerned about the ecoboost all along, turbos generate heat and towing loads in full boost makes it even worse. Makes me happy I have a 5.0. I pull at max rating up hills a lot with my 5.0 and no real rise in Temps.

That aside this is clearly a case of more cooling needed and I agree with most here that bigger IC and larger aftermarket radiator would work, but actually I think you will be better served by getting a transmission cooler that is separate from the radiator. Cooling the fluid in its own radiator so to speak takes away a huge heat sink the main radiator has to help cool..

Id like to see the temps of a 3.5 and a 5.0 doing a long pull with the same load up the same hill. I'm curious of the difference.

Thing is the 5L will loose 70/100 lb ft of torque on a mountain pass = to a lot less heat where the 3.5L keeps on generating = to maybe 3.5 MPG.

Good point. My towing has all been in the east in the blue Ridge and Appalachian mountains which is not the same as out west so altitude is not as much a problem. The grades are still pretty long and steep many 5% or more and running in hot humid conditions where it's hard to cool an engine. Not saying an eco won't pull more just a 5.0 is easier to cool.

In 12,500 miles of towing my 9500 lb fiver and with a tow tune, I only had the temperature go above center once and that was a several mile pull up a mountain in Wyoming. I dropped my speed from 62 to 55 and the temps dropped back to normal. I do have a Wagner CAC.

I would agree that the Wagner IC is the way to go.
