DI Cleaners
 

There's been plenty of talk about direct injection and carbon build up.
What I'm wondering is if it's worth it to run cheap fuel (87 octane) and my own injector cleaner every fill-up.
What are your thoughts and recommendations for brands?

I think the main problem with DI lies in the fact that with emissions crap, crankcase gases and exhaust gases are introduced into the intake without any gas to wash them out. this leads to build up on the intake side before the combustion chamber. Adding cleaner to your fuel will not help here.

I guess what I'm asking is would I be better off adding my own additive as opposed to paying the gas company.
At times, 89 and 87 is 6 to 10 cents difference per liter. 91 of course is even more. Sometimes 20 cents.

What makes you think that premium gas will make any difference?

The thought is that injector clearer won't make a difference considering where it enters the engine, which is the same place as the gas does.

The problem your trying to solve is not dirty injectors. And even if it was a quality 87 octane would be as effective as a 91 or 93.

IMO don't waste money with cleaner or premium trying to solve that one.

Was just under the impression that premium has better/ more additives than 87. Not just higher octane.
If there's not much difference then I won't bother.
Was just curious if it was an option.
I do find the engine is a little more responsive with mid grade though.

Wonder if a little meth injection before the throttle plate would help keep things clean. Not really a solvent.... but wouldn't hurt IAT at all. Just buy a gallon of washer fluid every other tank.

Might as well advance the timing a little more too with the meth....

Chevron has Techron in all grades, so no need for premium unless you want it, and Techron is a proven fuel system cleaner. You could try a spray cleaner for throttle bodies to clean the intake, but talk to someone who knows before trying it.

Manual says to not use fuel additives. Could void your warranty if a problem arises and they find an additive in the fuel.
