i am by no means a pro on the topic. but from what i have gathered when you order a custom tune it is set up to your truck via the strategy code on the computer. if you get a tsb update done then it will change the strategy code on your truck thus not allowing you to use your custom tune until the tune is updated for the new code. I would get any tsb done first then read the code and get your custom tune then.

I had the new intercooler tsb done and e-mailed mike at MPT with my new strategy code and he updating the tune to the new code.

hope it helps.

Thanks for your help. The strategy code is the 4 digit code stamped on the ecu correct? So does that mean when you get the tsb done they change that 4 digit code?

my tuner read a 7 digit strategy code. if you but a SCT x3 programmer it will also read and tell you your strategy. i would buy one from MPT, try out the canned tunes that come with the tuner then after you get the work done to your truck shoot mike an email and fill out the custom tune page on his website.

just make sure you go back to stock when you drop the truck off for service... just to CYA.

Oh is that how it works? When you order . The custom tune they send you the tuner first then you use the tuner to read a code? Then you report that code back in order to get your custom tunes? I always assumed that you have them the 4 digit code then they sent you the custom tunes right off the bat. Well thanks for your help, it has certainly cleared that up for me.

you will be amazed at the power difference a tuner makes with this truck.

If you have an obd code reader you can get strategy from that also the number on your box may not be the same if yours has been updated. Either way the tuner will read your strategy.

Oh great thanks! I do have one, a cheap one but it may give me the code. Either way I guess it's best to wait till I have the tsb done...

I'd go ahead and order the tuner with said strategy now, I'd just keep track of what your current strategy is and after you take your truck in for the TSB check it again on the programmer to see if the strategy changed, if so email Mike and I'm sure he'll get you fixed up.

BTW, I got the updated tunes this week. Drastic improvement in shifting and to me the low end power is there where it wasn't before, much like every one raves about 5*. Also dig the tow/haul button for those times when you aren't looking for all out aggressiveness.

What if I just ordered the tuner but waited to fill out the CAL request form until after I get my tsb done? Thanks for your help. I am looking forward to getting my tunes eventually!

You could do that, assuming SCT has your strategy you'd have the canned tunes to play with until you did your TSB and then you could do your custom tune order.
