Sub'd. Thanks for your tuning research lanmorga. I'm zeroing in on the tune i'll finally pull the trigger on but way later, funds don't allow right now. Do you know if he just sells individual tunes or does he sell a programmer with tunes as well? And it's good to see everyone is having a good experience with this guy. Alot of guys from the mustang forums sounded like they wanted to kick his ***.

Well I took my boat to the lake today and the tune did really good, held the gears good. I set the cruise at 70 and it only down shifted twice on the hills, pulls with plenty of power but I will have to say I like 5* 93 perf/tow better for pulling my boat. It's not that 5* has more power than SoCal because its nowhere in the same ball park as far as power IMO. I just really like the super low end torque for towing. Don't rag too hard on me. I will defiantly keep Shawn's for everyday and switch to 5* for towing my boat. I've been switching for 18,000 plus miles from Livernois to 5*, so it will be faster now to switch. I will probably shoot Shawn an email to see if he can customize me a tune for just towing. As far as drive ability compared to Livernois, there is a few differences like SoCal holds gears a little longer and you feel a little more of an down shift with SoCal, which I like both of those better. This is the best my truck has drove since I've owned it and I am very excited.

Thank you! You just saved me some money. Every new tune that I have gotten because of these tuner reviews have not been able to match the 5 Star low end, and I end up switching back to the 5 Star after a week of driving them. I am a torque junky that likes that low end feel for normal driving, and I have never had issues like others have had with my 5 Star P/T tunes. I get more enjoyment from that low end, barely touch the throttle feel in the 5 Star's than the all out performance tune's top end speed. That is just me, and I know others have their own preference. Don't get me wrong, those other tunes will blow his away in flat out performance ,but that is not what I am looking for in a tune. Thanks again for your honest opinion and review.

Aaahhh, you guys are killing me. I was about ready to pull the trigger on a FR car-back set up. That may be put on the back burner while I try out this So-Cal tune....

Definitely Al - different strokes for different folks!

CB, definitely interested in the response you get regarding a tow tune from Shawn. I am sure he can make a rockin tow tune since that one did OK and it was solely meant for performance (unless you told him you wanted a tow/perf hybrid?). I dont tow, myself, but still interested.

Keep us posted!

Dave, if you don't have a tune, it is the single best thing you can do for your truck in terms of power and drivability. If you already have a custom tune, then the increase when going to the SoCal is a great deal for 150 compared to the increase you get with an exhaust at 600+. Then again, you get other things with the exhaust like sound and the fun of installing and getting a tangible product as opposed to a file in your email... so its really just up to your preferences.

You're killin' me. A tune is not a cat-back. You can adjust anything in the tune for any type of driving situation. If you want a towing type tune, Shawn can do it. If you want a drag racing tune, he can do that too. All I'm saying is other companies have their products and most of them adjust very few parameters. You're the customer. Tell Shawn what you want, and he wont stop until you're completely happy.

Have you ever tried a 5star tow tune?.....wow is all i can say! Have not tried any other tuner yet...on the the other hand they cant get my 91 performance to run right..so i am in the market for a good 91/93 performance tune.
Keep these tune reviews coming lanmorga, i likey!

Why go through all that if I am happy with what I got? Trust me, I have gone back and forth with some tuners to get them to replicate my 5 Star down low feel in normal driving but with their performance and apparently it is not that easy. The only tune I did not like from 5 star is his performance only tune which is why I was seeking others.

I dont like his performance only tunes either...must not be his niche.

Does it fall on its face when you go to get on the gas from a cruising speed?

I tried some tunes from him for my 5.4 4sp....every tune falls on its face. He even sent me a revision that did no better. Finally pulled the trigger on a tune from VMP...the drivability is top notch!
I also have a tune from Livernois, MPT, and PHP...currently running the LMS tune, as it has more part throttle get up and go than the VMP but drivability isn't "quite" that of the VMP tune.
