Default Costco regular gas ping 5.0

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone has noticed their 5.0 pinging and feeling less powerful when running Costco regular gas. I live in North NJ and their gas is the cheapest. I have tried Exxon regular a couple of times didn't notice the pining.

My truck is 2011, F150, 5.0, 4x4 with 17000 miles.

If it was pinging the ECM pulls timing to prevent Ping which equals less power. If it was less powerful and STILL pinging then you really got some bad gas. I personally don't trust "value" stations that much unless I've used them before and only stick to brand name stations while traveling. Chances are they got in a tanker full of 84-85 octane swill and got mixed in with the 87 and they didn't even know it.

Costco just started adding 5x the "additives and detergents" here in SA. The attendant was more than happy to tell me that it is now up to par with Shell and Exxon.

Whether it's true or not, at least they're adding more detergents and are still cheap as hell.

Don't run the cheapest gas you can find in a late-model vehicle. Contrary to what some may say, there is such thing as lower quality fuel. Pay the extra $3-4 and put name brand gas in your $40-45k truck!!

Around here Phillips is a preferred brand. Each time I have checked MPG the extra 6 to 11 cents over the cheaper stations has been more than paid back by the 1 to 3 MPG gain I see in my three vehicles.

I'd hate to have to pay for premium. I too believe in paying for name brand gas but will stick to 87 octane. It works just fine in my 5.0.
