Mine did the exact same thing and I had the "reflash" which took away the bottom end torque. I dumped the Ecoboost truck, but before you do.........I read a post today from mapleduckslayer???.......sorry if I got the name wrong, but he found some loose hoses that the dealer overlooked and his issues have gone away.

I had some crazy situations merging onto the highway. Foot planted to the floor to accelerate and complete loss of power and vehicles on the highway wondering why I was coasting in the merge lane. Took a good 20 seconds before power restored but experienced engine surging.

I've experienced turbo lag in other cars but nothing like this. At that point, it became a safety issue for me and I dumped the truck.

i will drive it for a week and check the oil and see where it is at. i have a good idea what it is going to show.

oh... guess what happened when i accelerated onto the interstate on the way home. got into the pedal a little and it did nothing for about 6-7 seconds, stuttered a couple times, and finally started to go.
I want to get your regional customer service manager involved, gillysmi. To get the ball rolling, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll get this into their hands.

Crystal,

I am not confident that Ford or my dealer can solve the problem. I do have a question for you though. it appears that a catch can may help solve or reduce the problem. what is Ford's stance on doing that?

I really don't want to get a different vehicle and if it will take care of the problem I will look into it but, I do not want to void the warranty on a vehicle that to me, is already suspect in reliability.

Thanks

Hi gillysmi,

Using or installing an aftermarket part won't necessarily void your warranty. If it causes damage to a Ford part or causes a Ford part to fail, however, you would be responsible for the cost of the repair. I recommend having a chat with your dealership's service manager to see what they think; they'll be your best bet to get direction on a specific part you'd like to install.

haven't driven enough to make any oil but did fill up the tank and put a hundred or so miles on. cant say for sure but appears maybe my mileage has improved a tad. got 16 yesterday for a 40 mile round trip at 65. hell of a lot better than what I was getting.

the 'jerkiness' is still really bad. does it a lot more now than what it was doing. now at all speeds whenever I give it gas. I have to really pay attention when driving in town so I don't run into somebody when it decides to finally take off.

will report back at the end of the week when I get a few more miles on it.

The problem with tuning/programming is whoever writes the tune has the ability to defeat several of the functions that are critical to protect the engine from damage, so that is an area where one tuner may desensitize or defeat the knock sensors or similar so that the PCM is unable to protect the engine in the event of detonation, and that is critical with forced induction and certainly would directly contribute to a failure.

Good question though!

Ford made a statement about tunes and the ability of the eCU to keep a record of them in there. "If it leads to damage the warranty will be revoked on that part."
I read it as, " You can do what you want to as long as it doesn't break anything."
