I know on mine I have both the intercooler hole and a CC. The CC pulls out a lot a gunk that the hole wasn't evacuating as it wasn't present in that system.
I'm looking at a 2014 eb and just don't feel comfortable drilling a hole in something just feels wrong even though I see it does work but how much does the catch can system cost and does it void any warranty like drilling a hole in the intercooler would.

I agree with your also, never going to drill a hole in the intercooler

The catch cans are $125-$500, depending on the size and features

Do you want to take the chance of having the truck fall on its face when you are passing a vehicle? It did it to me when passing a truck on a 2 lane highway. I needed the power and the truck failed me. Luckily I didn't have another vehicle coming. What if?

Drilling the hole will prevent this from ever happening. Just do it. For the guys who say I have never had this issue thats fine. I hadn't either until that day. Drilling the hole evacs all of the gunk out so this will never happen.

Side effects. None. The amount of boost pressure lost out of a 1/16th inch hole is so minimal you will never notice.

What happened to your engine? But I get what your saying is the hole was there and no one said a thing. Did u get the new engine and have the work done at a ford dealership?

Why would one need to do this anyways?

I lease my vehicles.. so I really don't care about drilling a hole or adding a catch can.. but I am intrigued to know why this is such an issue? Has this issue been addressed on the 2017+ EB motors?

Agetech is the first person to have his motor replaced that has posted here. Its probably happened elsewhere but no one else has posted.

His was timing chain related. The weep hole won't help with that.

I see that his was not a timing changing prob which they have tsb for. I just wonder his is a 2012 the truck I'm looking at is 2014 so idk if I'll run into the same issues as his but I def know the 2014's can still have that chance of the timing chain issue albeit they seem fewer than the previous years and hopefully they figured out whatever it was that happened to his engine by 2014.
