Default Canned tunes?

So many tune post with SOO many different options. I keep leaning towards stock SCT tune or MPT. I know they have 5*, SSI, unleashed, livernois etc. I dont know what all the data log info means. Im not looking for a 13 second truck. looking for safe, reliable MPG and no electronic lag tune. please input your experience

I was happy with the canned 87 on the Sct until I got some custom ones..My 87 Trex and 87 Mpt are great..Still have to datalog both and see if I need revisions..Did some 0-60 and 1/4 miles on both..Almost identical..Recorded with my Gryphon.

I have been very happy with the MPT tunes with street shifting...

You ain't kiddin'

What you've stated isn't enough to go on... what are you really looking for?

1) Tip in - jumpy, immediate but manageable, increased MPG
2) With a quicker vehicle than you are expecting, what is the likelihood you'll want to hit it more than you think?
3) What do you want in shifts: head snapping, solid and confident, stock, like an electric motor
4) How much upper end power do you really want?
5) Do you want a truck that no one could really tell is tuned until you apply at least 1/2 pedal to light up the tires and feel as though you are being pushed to the back seat?
6) How important really is MPG?
7) Do you have an aftermarket CAC, Have SP-534 or equivalent plugs gapped to at least .030 uniformly?
8) What do you want for mid-level (passing power) - quick and very powerful, better than stock, stock gets the job done
9) What octane gas will you run?
10) How much do you haul and/or tow: frequency and weight?
11) What is your normal driving environment; city, burbs, highway / mix of each.

and so on... tuners have fairly customized base files for you to work with and tweak (or not) from there. The more you understand what your wants are, the more likely you'll be happy with your first tune(s).

The device you'll get comes preloaded with the canned stuff so it might help to run them for a bit and see if they are what you are looking for. Just realize there is a whole nother level of drivability and performance to be had going custom.

I drive the SSI T4 87O (on 91+gas) Snow and Ice tune that was perhaps the best base tune file ever written (purely opinion!) based on how I answered the above.

I wanna run 12's in my daily driver . No, I really only want better MPG, solid transmisson and no speed limiter. Power is a bonus but im not looking for a race truck. I have a drop in AEM dry filter and use 93 octane.

I have had a happy right foot and also better mpg' running Power Hungry Performance and now they use SCT on the gas engines. My 5.0 with php tunes reminds me of my old 442 with the throttle response.

You didn't say which engine you have, but you can use Torque Pro to monitor the stock tune for Knock Retard (KR), boost, cat temps, timing, etc. Then do it with the SCT canned 87 tune (I suggest running it with premium for optimal performance and mileage), and then you will have a good base line for a custom tune. Folks here can help you set that up and tell you what to look for on KR.
I found the canned SCT 87 to be a nice step up with good fuel mileage, but the shifting was a little soft.

Did you go into the settings and adjust the shift points to "firmer"? My 5.0 with the 87 SCT would bark the 1-2 shift and sometimes 2-3. I didn't like the shift strategy when coming to a stop though, 3-2-1 opposed to stock 3-1

No, but will look for that if I load it again. Thanks!

Guess I could have asked MPT but maybe you guys can help. If I order a tuner from MPT or any custom tuning place does it still come with stock tunes or only custom?
