Default Camshaft position sensor P0016

Probably been tons of posts on this. Here's my story. Check Engine light, power loss, tranny shifting weird. Replaced sensor. Not the fix I had hoped for. Took it in today to get Ford to scan it. Their verdict: Timing Chain replacement, $2500+. Here's my question with that. I bought an OBD II scanner. Scanned, got the P0016 code. Cleared the codes, Engine light off. Truck runs GREAT!!! Smooth, power, shifts correctly. NO NOISE from under hood. For about 30 miles. Bam! Check engine light, no power, tranny weird. I'm assuming "limp" mode but no wrench light. Is it the timing chain? It runs great when the codes are cleared. Also, it might be a week or two before I can afford the $2500 bucks. Ok to drive? I would have sworn it to be a software issue. Not the case says Ford. I'm taking to a few shops that were advised to me tomorrow. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that Ford not trying to shaft me...Thanks!

Since it cost $2500 to get mine fixed, I can't say it was worth the money..lol. The warranty is great tho. 2 Year, unlimited mileage, and since I put right at 35k a year on it, that is good for me. It DOES however run like a new truck. I haven't had any issues tho. Hope yours is not a costly one and hope you figure out what's wrong.
