Breaking in EcoBoost
 

Some recommend driving it like you stole it for motor break-in, seating rings etc. I've only got about 250 miles so far and have been baby'ing it, am I doing any harm? Should I do a couple full throttle runs?

Just drive it like you will later. Except long drive at steady speeds are not recommended the first few hundred.

Break-in is over-rated.

I agree, I've had mine tuned within a couple hundred miles of buying it, I drive living crap out of it since i left the lot. On my second ecoboost.

Factory actually "breaks in your engine" now days. Manual still says to avoid highway driving for long distances and to avoid taking it to red line for the first hundred miles. I don't know for sure, but i wonder if has to do with the adaptive learning for the transmission.

At 250 miles...that puppy is broke in!

The LAST thing Ford or any manufacturer wants to do with a new vehicle is replace an engine. Why would they trust the owners of those new vehicles to properly break them in? They are put on engine dyno's and run to break them in properly before they leave the factory to go into the trucks. No way they are going to trust their customers to even know how to break in an engine, much less do it correctly.

I figured it was heat cycled at the factory and pretty much good to go. I didn't know if turbo charging changed the game, hence my question. By babying it mileage so far is 18.4 around town. A 50 mile trip up the interstate @ 65&70mph on cruise got 21.1 mpg. This motor so far is smooth as glass. Thanks for the replies.

Don't they put the engines through the rev range after they are built?
