Default Dropped my SSI tune and went back to my MPT tune

I ran my SSI tune for about 11,000 miles since October and over time began to dislike it more and more. At first I was amazed because it seemed like it had tons more low end than the MPT tune I started with, however, after miles of driving, I noticed it was like the gain was turned way up on an amp...and that a whole lot happened without much throttle, and not a whole lot more happened with more throttle. This got annoying because I would barely move the throttle and the boost would jump like crazy and make my mpg go to crap. I was averaging 13.2 mpg city/hwy mix and only 14.5 on straight hwy.

What really made me go back to MPT was a much more important reason. With heavy throttle, I was getting a weird noise from the tranny like something was slipping during shifts. It didnt do it the first high throttle shifts, but it did the next set. It really worried me. I thought it must be my truck.

I called SSI about it and asked what it could be and he said it wasnt tune related because they don't adjust anything in the tranny. Wait...WHAT? So I have been running nearly 100 HP more and the shift pressure wasn't even increased?

I thought I was paying more for a more complete tune when really, after the 11,000 miles of driving and that last bit of information, I paid for something that just cranked up the throttle sensitivity, bumped up the boost and dumped some more fuel in. I guess that would be the reason that when I asked technical questions about the tune, I never got answers.

So anyway, I put the MPT tune back on. Immediately noticed the more firm shifts, and drove it sanely for about 40 miles. Then I laid into it. Again and again. And again, wait one more time. No tranny noise. Problem solved. I regret not being more patient with the MPT tune the first go around. I have put 2000 miles on the tune since switching back and havent even had the urge to go back to the SSI. Not one single time has it made the tranny noise.

Not to mention that even though I have been ******* on my truck 5x more since I am not worried about the tranny anymore, I am getting 14.9 mpg average. I did sacrifice a very slight bit of power at lower speeds (doesnt bark 2nd as much), but the truck actually seems faster with the MPT tune above 60 mph than the SSI. Seems much more controlled and not like MPT just cranked out everything it could irregardless of other considerations.

Anyway, now I am more comfortable with the idea of an AFE intake (scared because of the tranny noise on the SSI tune), and have asked MPT for updated tunes to reflect that mod. I'll report how it all turns out.

Anyway, I wanted to apologize to MPT for having posted previously that the SSI tune was better, as I now feel I had a very false first impression of them.

Let the floodgates open. Sounds like he was pawning that trans issue off on something else. If he doesn't change the trans shift strategy then why does everyone rave about the smooth cvt feel of seamless shifting? I'm sure others will chime in on their experiences. Thanks for the post.

Oh deah gawd. These two literally take the cake. Sure, the whole orchestrated blitz is to be tolerated; however, how far can it be taken before the rope inevitably tightens.... How, and the better question is, WHY do you guys come up with this over-reaching stuff?

So, a couple of things for those reasonable minded folk:

1) It is a well know and very public fact that Shawn and others work with the shift strategy. In fact, Shawn was and remains well ahead of the curve and other tuners such as Mike in his abilities. The 5H was revolutionary, T3 and then T4 were damn close to masterpieces (that incidentally MPT is perhaps mimicking) and the strategy in TREX is a whole new paradigm, yet again...

2) LOL. Actually, it's Bawhahahaha. Yeah, OK, you OP are spot on in that Shawn works with 3 to 4 variables of the tables and maps. In fact, you are so off base it is assinine. Shawn is working in the smallest of nuance areas of maps and how they interact to change subtle and overall performance characteristics. Which brings us to you other "point" OP: why would a tuner give you more than general information? "Hi. Mr Tuner, will you please divulge your IP? No? Well, you don't know anything and you are a jerk. Now, I am going to go on a web forum and say you don't know jack." Super.

3) And finally, you, OP, had NO SUCH conversation with Shawn.

Sad, really. This whole smear BS is really, really tiring.

I hope you enjoy your tune.

I was being sarcastic. It's obvious that the shift strategy with any tune is manipulated. The smear campaign? I don't really see many smear posts anymore. Other than comparing MPT vs SSI but if those are smears it's only for reasons that MPT has turned out to be faster. As far as mimicking SSI shift strategy perhaps Shawn will find that with his next round of tunes since apparently MPTs copying is doing well. Run what you like, that's what I say but how can you say this guy never spoke to Shawn? His word against Shawn and vice versa. Right?

Jwanck11. Do you get any money at all or other compensation related directly or I directly to ssi or affiliates? Sure seems like it.

Is SSI the same guy that used to tune lightnings?

Good job for you op. The smoke and mirror show of "instant throttle feel" and "burning your tires " is nothing more than a magic show. Only thing you will achieve is bald tires quicker and lean running motor.
