Any Alaskans with the ecoboost?
 

I'm planning on getting in to a 2012 Screw Lariat 6.5 3.73 ls 4wd w/hd payload & maxtow in the spring. Just wondering if there was anyone on here who has driven the 3.5l EB in the extreme weather we sometimes get here in Alaska. I live in Fairbanks. Also if you have dealt with Seekins, how are they to work with?

I've seen a couple, like 3, down in the valley/anchorage area. I'd wait a year and see how they do in the winter in like montana/wyoming/canada

Montana and Wyoming is like the banana-belt compared to Minnesota's polar peninsula. Minnesota is known as the polar peninsula from an area of high ground that extends from the Canadian border down to the southern plains like a fat icicle. The terrain goes from prairie in the lowland surrounding the peninsula to deciduous on the southern tip of the peninsula to conifer forests in the northern end of my state.

We regularly have both the lowest and highest heat index in the lower 48. The cold from the Jet Stream dipping down to the southern end of Minnesota in the winter as the jet stream often follows the western contours of our polar peninsula in the winter. In the summer, as soon as the sun comes out, our heat index spikes as all of our lakes begin evaporating throwing all of that humidity into the air. We have more tornados than any other state from cold and hot air masses bumping into each other and our weather can change locally on a dime. The weather is so interesting around here that Minnesotans talk about the weather incessantly as though it is a state pastime.

Yep, I'm in anchorage. I have the EB Lariat w/plus and chrome PKG, and Max tow PKG. Other than my heated seats not working well with the auto start, I couldn't be happier. I have no experiance with Seekins,

I'm in Fairbanks, as well! I opted for the 5.0, but from what I've seen, Seekin's is selling tons of ecoboosts. I can't see there being much of a problem with them in our climate, as Ford (along with many others) do extensive extreme environment testing.

If you buy a 1yr membership with EAA.org ($40), you qualify for X-Plan pricing after 30 days. I saved about $4000 by doing that. Best of luck to you with your purchase.

EDIT: Seekin's was great to deal with. Between my father-in-law and myself, we just purchased two F150s and an F350. Tuck or Jeremiah are two great salespeople to work with. They are both on top of their game and don't pressure you. Seekin's was not on the top of my list for dealers about 5-10 years ago, but it seems they have done a complete 180. They are friendly, professional, and seem to be treating the customer right.

Cool, thanks for the X-plan info, I will definately be doing that. I'm just trying to gather up all the info I can to make the decision on which engine to go with(5.0/3.5L).

Yeah I've read a little about the autostart/heated seats issues people have, something along the lines that the seats have to be turned on manually, once the engine shuts down, they are reset to off.

I will be fishing for more information as spring approaches and people have put their trucks through the first winter.

Not mentioning any names, but I did have to school the salesman that contacted me wanting to sell me a 2011. He didn't know about the hd payload option for the 2012 supercrew, just one of the reasons why I'm waiting til spring and the 2012's. The 36 gallon tank, the fact that I probably wont use it a whole lot in the winter & that I need to sell my 2009 Colorado which I would rather do private sell rather than trade in (only 2000 miles on it). I just signed up with EAA, so will be good for any X-plan discount by the time I'm ready to pull the trigger.

Others will say that X-Plan prices can be beaten by negotiations. Unfortunately, getting down to invoice or even below that at Seekins would be nearly impossible on one's own. Since they are the only Ford dealer within about 350 miles, they don't have much incentive to come down on prices. Anyway, with my X-plan and incentives I came out about $9000 cheaper than the sticker price.

Plus, EAA is awesome. Reading the monthly magazines that they send you is definitely making me want to pursue my license.

tl;dr.

No ecoboost? Don't care. Come to Ak and we'll show you some real winters.
