aFe Stage 2 Intake Status
Hey guys, I wanted to give you another update as to where we are at with the Stage 2 Ecoboost intake as it stands on 6-27-12. We have shipped all but two intakes from the group. We have gone through our last production run and are starting a new production run sometime next week. The machine that builds this is currently cracking out 5" diesel exhaust systems that can be tricky. We will then build several hundred sets (about 150 of the 2012 model and about 50 of the 2011 model). We will start seeing additional units ship out the second week in July. This should catch us up with some safety stock for inventory and all current forum members will have received their units. Again, if you guys have any further questions or issues, please contact me at jbruce@afepower.com or call me at 951-493-7147. We are really happy about how well this product is selling. We were caught completely off guard. Great problem to have but man it is painful digging out of backorders. Thanks for the patience and support. Jason

dyno results
I've read through the whole thread & maybe I missed it, but have any of you guys done dyno tests or have actual 1/4 mile time slips before & after of the stage 2?

Successful Install..Quick Review..
Well the day has finally come..Got around to installing my stage 2 (dry filter) this afternoon. Here are my initial obvservations and will note now that I also installed my Livernois 87 Octane Tune as well.. For my review on the tune here is the link:
https://www.f150forum.com/f70/livern...46319/index67/
Packaging/Quality: Upon opening the box i was happy to find everything packaged extremely well inside the box and all contents were there. Both tubes wrapped extremely well in bubble wrap and directions were very clear with good pictures. I do have some hesitations and possible future concerns over the material that all of the couplers are made of. I wish the rubber or material they used was a bit thicker and stiffer. I will be keeping a close eye on all of them as I had concerns due to another member having a coupler tear open on him shortly after install. A spare straight coupler was included in the kit and I will be keeping it in the truck just in case. This is the only area I would like to see an improvement in. The materials made for all the couplers/boots including those on the ends of the filter.
Install: Complete install took just over an hour. Removal of stock intake was simple. Followed instructions and everything was smooth. You do have to take your time and tweak everything prior to tightening down. The tolerances the kit is made to are almost spot on but there is just enough room for each tube to fit into each coupler just enough to get the clamps on properly and snug. Tighten here and loosen there a few times to pull each tube in just enough to have clamp have enough to snug down on to. Lid fit into bottom half of stock box as it should. Takes a little being brave to use the factory plastic clips that hold the one side of the box on. In order to get them to snap in they have to go up a little higher on the afe box to click in and lock down. If i was ever to switch back to stock intake i am sure these clips would have to be replaced because they are stretched out longer now than when they were attached to stock box but overall they hold the new afe box in nice and tight. Once everything was lined up and all clamps were snugged down i slowly closed the hood. The tubes sit a hair higher than stock intake tube but does not appear to be rubbing against the underside of the hood..
Performance: Once all installed and snugged down I fired up the truck. At idle I noticed no difference in sound or volume than stock, even with the hood still up..With the hood up I then revved the engine a bit and you could hear the "whoosh" of air being sucked in but was not obnoxious and no noises that concerned me. Closed the hood, had my dad ride shotgun and took her for a ride. Through the subdivison at normal 20-25mpg speeds nothing seemed different soundwise or performance wise (obviously). Got out on the main roads and jumped on it. I had the radio off and could hear the "whooshing" of air as the turbos kicked in and some minor blow of noise from wastegates but the sound was NOT obnoxious or overbearing at all..As soon as I let off on the pedal and set cruise control sounded completely stock again. I did all of this prior to installing my Livernois tune and should note the only other mod I had at this time is my 4" SOLO Exhaust. Honestly by my "butt dyno" I did notice a definite increase in response when mashing the pedal..Passed a few cars (legal passing zones of course!) and the truck definitely had more get up and go than before.. Overall impressed with performance and any fears I had about the noises or sounds of an aftermarket intake with this Ecoboost engine were gone..That shouldn't be an issue for any of you to worry about..
Conclusion: These are just my initial observations after only about 50 miles of travel with the new intake. So far, so good (fingers crossed). As stated I installed my Livernois tune an hour after this and will add my thoughts on that in the Livernois thread but let me say HOLY *****!! This truck MOVES now!! MPG numbers will take me some time to evaluate and I will post back with more info weekly. If anyone has questions let me know and I will answer them to the best of my abilities.
