Question 6.2L Spark Plug Replacement Schedule

IIRC from what I've read, the replacement schedule for 6.2L spark plugs is every 100,000 miles.

I bought my truck at 112k and now just hit 120k and I noticed a slightly rough idle.

I'll probably go ahead and replace them soon since I don't know when the current set were replaced, but wanted to confirm that the Ford recommended maintenance schedule is 100k.

Spark plugs are a regular maintenance item. If you want good reliable spark then don't wait out the 100K BS that ford says too. Spark plugs take all of 45 minutes to change and cost less than 100 bucks to do.

Um, no. Not with the 6.2. With 16 plugs, 8 of which are low with many people recommending removing the wheel splash guards and getting to them through the wheel well (meaning removing the front wheels), typical replacement time is from 3 to 4 hours for the average shade tree mechanic (quicker, of course those with more 6.2L experience under their belts).

This is not a typical 5.4L or Ecoboost plug replacement job. And being 1,800 miles away from my primo tools and jacks, with only the most rudimentary hand tools with me (not even spark plug sockets and gapping tools), I'm not exactly equipped to easily tackle this maintenance project.

Otherwise, yea, I usually change them if I see performance or idling issues, regardless of recommended schedule.

I was inquiring what that schedule was to ascertain possibly when the previous owner may have had them replaced.

What's the best gap setting for optimum performance on the 6.2?

Yes it will take more than 45 minutes since you have two sets and you may need to remove the wheel well liners.

I'm going to call MPT, where I got my tune, to see what they recommend for gapping the plugs at. I'll browse the FRF in the meantime while I gather enough courage to go change them. As long as they don't break like my 06 5.4's did, I could careless how hard they are to get at. Haha. I really don't want to get a Lisle tool again for this job and have to figure out how to get my hands in there.
