The 6.2 is an awesome engine, torque machine and a great design, if fuel Econ is a concern I might have him look at somthing else, however if he doesn't mind 12-16 mpg he will love this motor, it's the most powerful motor for offers in the f150 and the most powerful motor in the half ton class. I give it an a+ and I drive an ecoboost

I love mine, can't think of a single negative to date....

I put 800 miles on an Ecoboost before buying my 6.2. I can't say any thing bad about either engine. I bought a Platinum and the on the lot trucks all had 6.2's so that is what I ended up with. I "think" I would still have went with the 6.2 even if they had an Eco Platinum on the lot but never had to dig that deep in to comparisons since they didn't.

6.2- only negative I've ever heard really was MPG. I was in a 06 long bed King Ranch single rear wheel diesel with a 1.6 mile commute to work; as you can imagine good MPG was toward the bottom of my wish list.

4800 miles and 14.4MPG average, more than good for me! I'm trying to get that down to around 13MPG but don't want to drive it too hard yet! LOL!!

The HP/TQ ratings on the 6.2 are achieved with premium fuel per Ford. It will run on 87, but not make the same numbers. That can be a drawback if one wants all it has to offer. I was just about 50/50 on my decision. I had to order my truck and choose the EB at the last minute simply for the gas mileage.

If MPG is not an issue with you, go with the 6.2. I love mine.

??? Can u show us where this is stated by Ford cuz I kinda doubt this. And in any case, even if these vehicles do have octane sensors, which is still being debated, octane wouldn't cause a loss or gain of more than 2-3 HP.

Ford's own literature says the ratings on the engine are based on premium fuel. Instead of doubting it...google it. Suppose to be about a 10HP/15lbft difference.

I love my Limited and the 6.2 L. As far as using premium gas it really doesn't matter with no real noticed difference; take it from people that own and drive one.

I did add a CAI and tune which brought it to life though.

I started a thread asking if anybody has had any problems with the 6.2 and other then MPG's there were no complaints. Search for it.

I still question my decision...maybe a 6.2 next time. I just drive so many miles 55-60K a year. The mileage difference adds up quick.

So far I really like mine. Yeah the fuel mileage is on par or better with engines in its class. BTW dont get caught up in the fuel mileage stuff you read. There are too many variables. So far the life of mine at 8800k is at 14.4. This is approximently 2k pulling a bass boat and a two horse trailer. I have seen just over 18 on easy going hwy trips and also seen 15's when running 75 to 80+. I live in the mountains which IMO levels the gas mileage playing field somewhat between engines. I have a co worker that has a SCEW like mine Lariat with a EB and he says his lifetime average is about 17.5, but this is not towing either. He also said he has seen as high as 20+ on the road. The 6.2 will never see 20mpg over any distance. The mountains with all the rolling hills its like your never on a level surface your always on some sort of incline or decline. Heck just a 1% grade makes a difference on the hwy.
IMO you wouldnt be dissapointed in either choice, but if you put a lot of miles per year, say 25 to 30k I would opt for the EB it would defentily leave a little jingle in your pocket.
