My truck is a 5.0, lifted 6.5", 35x12.50 tires on 22x12 wheels = a lot of extra drag! And it's all being done with 3.55 gears :/ I didn't research enough before I purchased- that won't happen again!
I still love my truck, but I think it shifts too soon, and is often in a higher gear than it should be, and I HATE how it bogs down on the highway and downshifts at every minor incline. I've wanted to regear it to 4.10 or 4.56, but my local Ford dealer won't do it, and I haven't found a good aftermarket shop yet. In my research, I've read that I'll want a "tune" if I do a regear because it'll shift weird and I won't like it. I've also read that if I just get a tune, I might not want to regear the truck because it'll be so "alive" after a tune. So... I've been looking at tunes/tuners. I don't want to change my engine parameters so drastically that damage could happen over time. So I get to my point: Can I just get my ECU (PCM, whatever) reflashed to work with the new 4.10's if I got my truck regeared? Ford made this truck with optional 4.10's, so they obviously have factory "tunes" for 4.10's. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Personaly i would regear and get a custom tune. Even an off the shelf tune for the time being then a custom tune later.
