I have not yet received my new tuner and the 5* tunes I ordered.
Just received a call from the dealer and they will be updating my computer to the latest flash version next week.
Will SCT X4 and 5* tunes be good to go with the information I sent 5* read from the trucks module as in the 5* instructions?
Or does the new dealer flash change things so I have to get the custom tunes updated before I install anything?
I've never flashed anything on this truck and I am hoping that when the tuner arrives I can start using it on the latest TSB update that will be installed.

The only way to know is to check if the strategy code is the same.

If it isn't then send them your new strategy, shouldn't take too long to get updated tunes.

And hopefully it will help with ur problems. I know with my tires I am seeing about 11 l/100km (21ish mpg) on average on the highway. In town my mileage sucks, but that's my own fault lol.

Towing power is insane. Just give it some time to learn the truck

Right, I was reading up on that last night.
I ordered using the PCM code (4 digit code on sticker on computer).
Does a dealer update make that code obsolete and I need to get new tunes to the strategy I read after getting updated?
I know I should be asking 5* but you guys are just so helpful.
I'm wondering about the canned tunes that come with the SCT X4 now too. Will they need an update too?

When you ordered they probably didn't load the custom tunes because they need your strategy code before they can build them. Wait for the update then send them the new strategy. The PCM code shouldn't change. As for the canned tunes, don't think they are covered under the warranty. But they should have all the tunes loaded for all strategies.

Mike at 5* has been excellent on his replies so far.
The dealer is going to update my truck to the latest strategy on Monday. I will have to send that strategy into 5* for new custom tunes to match. The tunes in the X4 match my current strategy.
Once the SCT X4 shows up in the mail I can get on with the process.
I can log data on the new dealer flash until then for comparison. Unfortunately I don't have my ELM327 yet so I can't log data on my original strategy that seems to be such a dog compared to my 2011.

When you get the X4, just plug it in. It will read the current strategy. That is the one 5* needs for your tunes. If you are getting a dealer updated flash, wait to read the strategy after their flash. I got the 6/100K warranty and all my SCT canned tunes are now locked out on the device. I didn't ever plan on loading any of them, but I couldn't even if I wanted to.

You guys with the 5 star performance/tow tunes what are you seeing for coolant temps while pulling a load behind the truck?

With everything stock minus the 91 oct perf/tow file I was seeing around 210-215*F while pulling my 5500-6000lb boat through the mountains.

I believe I am going to be swapping the t-stat for a Reische 170*F unit or a factory 180*F one as I live in Canada and during the non summer months its damn cold.

Leave your thermostat alone. Those temps are fine.
I get those temps empty on stock tune with just a little hill.
I've been towing my 8000# TT the last 3 days on the 5* 87 p/t tune and it's normal to be 190 - 220s depending on grade and outside temperature.
I had a hot day in the Rockies today and I saw 244f for a moment when having to floor it up a long double lane hill from a near stop. Simply backed off to half throttle and it rapidly cooled to normal.
I simply wasn't travelling fast enough to get air flow needed for an extended full throttle pull.
All modern engines are designed to operate at these temps. Empty mine stabilizes at 190f with no load. I'm also a Canadian truck. It probably has a 190 thermostat stock as is common practice here. 180 gets more use in those hot southern States.

Thanks for the info just wasn't sure if I was on my own with those temps.

The 5 Star tune is strong as the Rockies aren't an easy pull from Calgary to Vernon BC. Very happy with it.
