5 Star Ecoboost Tune Reviews

Ok here is something weird and scary.....bombing down a North Dakota twin, cruise on at 70, coming up on a slower vehicle, well I will just glide by him on cruise...get up beside him and figure nah I better zoom by so I step on the gas, big 5StarTuning smile on my face, boom I am 90 fast. Take me foot of the gas, pull back into my lane and let the truck coast by down to cruise setting...still with me? Hey WTF 5 gear, 4 gear then 3rd gear at 70 mph and 5000 RPM WTH!
Now this guy I just passed is all over my tail gate and rightfully pissed off.... I am panicking trying to get it to up shift using the manual toggle switch, nothing, still holding 70 mph and cruise finally it jumps back up into 6th gear...WHEW.
What's happening guys? 87 P/T installed

Well that would be a heavy relief but I had cruise engaged and I believe above the set point of the cruise (70mph) when this occurred....coasting down from 90 mph
All said passing on cruise may not be best practice in retrospect...my apologizes to the guy in the white Chevy who must have wondered what the hell????

Keepin' the lights on!
There's quite a few hills around here so that feature works good for me but I was like WTF?!? the first couple times that it did it. Next time you can either cancel cruise or just ever so slightly keep your foot on the skinny pedal until you return to your set speed.

Got mine installed yesterday - 93 performance, NO TOW tune. Gotta be honest - As I told my buddy, I was the guy who was relatively unimpressed with the speed of my C6Z after gaining over 120 rwhp with the addt'n of a cam, intake, cai, LTs, tune, etc. I was also unimpressed with my 600+ rwhp '04 Cobra after the addt'n of my gen II Whipple 2.3 twin screw blower. So, after all the hype I read reference these tuners, I guess my expectations of the capabilities of the truck after their install was a bit exaggerated. That said, after installing the above tune, I was left wondering where the power was at. However, there are several things I didn't initially take into consideration immediately after installing the tune and romping on 'er....
1. The truck is a ~6k lb BRICK,
2. The outside ambient temp = 93*
3. Humidity = > 50%
4. Truck is a SCREW style truck, on 20's with 3.55 gears
The truck had been sitting outside all day, so the tires were HOT. The asphalt was also WELL above 100* (HOT) - so after taking it out and not immediately being able to spin the ***** out of the tires from a stand still (NO brake boost) and the shift to 2nd didn't yield a chirp, scratch or squeak, I was UPSET!
However, after driving it to and from DFW over the past 24 hours, I was able to simmer a bit and really feel the truck. Without a doubt, the power is far greater. The tranny shifts are much improved. Passing at hwy speeds is effortless. The discrete sounds of the turbos spooling and slight blow off is now appreciable and today, after allowing the truck to sit a bit, I was able to, in the same weather conditions as described above, get the truck to spin the tires slightly from a dead stop and just barely scratch 2nd - twice.
I can only hope that as the temps drop around here and the asphalt cools, this truck will feel like something entirely different. In the meantime, I remain far more impressed than initially. I just need to be more real with my expectations.
Here's a closed course vid taken today of a romp from a stop - again, no brake boost. The grab of 2nd gear is more of a scratch than any kind of squeal or chirp, but in the truck, it was somewhat noticeable.

If I had any input to add, I'd like the 1st to 2nd gear shift, under WOT, to be more aggressive as there's still a slight lag in between the gear that I don't care much for.
Hope this helps you guys. Mike, you're an awesome guy with GREAT communication. Any thoughts on the 1st to 2nd gear switch?

I got in on the sale and have had the 87 tow/perf tune installed for a week. I upgraded to bigger tires and was having some funky shifting before installing the tune. Mike's tune is amazing, removing any lag from when you press the throttle. Leaving a stop light is much more smooth and the shifting is how Ford should have set it up from the factory. I have the 91 tow/perf and the 87 economy to still try out.
I haven't checked MPG, but between the new tires, altitude, hilly roads, and 75MPH interstates, I am not shooting for a new record across ecoboosts.

.....and that's another thing! I'm so used to the performance of so many of the cars that I've owned and/or driven over the years that I failed to consider that the majority of folks on this forum, who drive these trucks, likely aren't familiar with what a fast car is (sort of a generalization, I realize). So, to them, a mid to high-13 second anything is a barn burner. So failing to consider the above (probable) scenario, I unfairly went in to this tuner expecting something far more, which was grossly unrealistic on my part.
