Mine is a 87 Performance Street. Airaid JR intake with stock air filter(not the Airaid, made way to much noise), and a resonator delete and although i haven't datalogged it yet it seams perfect and I couldn't be happier. Pulls hard!!!

Have you tried the 93 performance vs. the 87 performance? I have the 87P also but I figure why not get the most out of the engine with the 93P.

I have not and chances are I won't. The 87 was a huge gain and seams to push the truck a lot. For the 15-20ish HP that may be left on the table isn't worth it for more $ a fill up. I barely ever go WFO to use it, so it's just something I couldn't justify.

I always ran 93 tunes in my last 3 trucks and never gained anywhere near the power this truck gained with the 87 tune. I'm happy!

^ this. I too did the 87 Performance tune and a major difference. I see no need to go more aggressive. Maybe it is my age, but this tune is plenty.

Well I did my logging and emailed it to MPT. Since the 93 is pinging so bad, I loaded up the 87 performance and will test that tomorrow.

What shifting strategy do y'all recommend? I think they call it street, race, or chill.

Is the shifting strategy only related to the firmness of the shifts, or is it also related to at what RPM the trans shifts?

My truck has 3.31 gears, which I am not fond of. I scored it for a good deal though, so changing gears is something I will probably do. I'm just hoping a good tune will tide me over for a while. Either that or I'll slap a Procharger on it and call it a day...

I went with chill and they are firm enough for me. I didnt want them so firm that it felt like the trans was getting thrashed. However, id opt for street and have MPT adjust to your liking. If the firmest setting on their "chill" isnt enough for you then your out of luck. Atleast thats what they told me.

I have the street which I love how it shifts, but it holds gears longer and won't go into 6th until 55mph which caused my MPGs to drop.

BUT

MPT has a sweet feature with there street tune. If you hit your tow haul button it changes your street settings into the Eco/chill settings. I have been just hitting the button after I crank her up and my MPGs have gone back up.

This is a nice feature. My chill setting will hit 6th at 45.

Just turned over 60,000 miles last weekend so no need to worry about my tune now I guess.

Update:

Still working with MPT on the 93 Performance tune. We are now on revision #5. Still have some pinging at low and hi rpms.

Tuner says my 5.0 is not taking to timing like other 5.0s he has tuned.

Why do you think he has to pull more and more timing for my engine? I am losing power every time he pulls timing.
