2012 5.0 Engine Shut Down...
Hey everyone, first time user/post. Thanks for the warm welcome (going forward).
Just purchased a used 2012 F-150 FX4 SuperCrew with 9300 miles on August 20th.
Used the search function and saw similar issues however none with a reported fix...Yesterday, I had the SAME issue as the other posts...driving under normal conditions (surface streets) and all of a sudden, Engine shuts off...power steering, power brakes, and throttle was shut off, the LCD screen flashed "low oil pressure".
The only thing different was a car had cut me off to turn right, and I hit my brakes pretty good, but not super hard, no screeching or ABS activated, just a good brake hit, but nothing out of the ordinary.
I understand the engine shutting off causes the low oil pressure message, but what could have caused the engine to just stall for no reason??
I rolled to a stop, freaked out... put it in park. Turned key off, started up again, and it began running with no messages on screen and everything working normally. Got home and drove around today for the better with zero issues...
I took it to the dealer for diagnostics and of course they couldn't find an issue. Curious if the others found a solution or if this has been an intermittent problem. Service writer said he has seen before but "nothing alarming". Informed me that if it happens again bring it back because they need to duplicate the issue. At a loss for words now. I owned a 98 F150 years ago and missed my ford truck so much I have finally been able to buy another one and love it so much, just very unsettling right now with the issue that just happened and I hope it doesnt happen again. Oil was full, gas was full, can't figure out what could have caused it... thanks for your responses.

Probably just a fluke. Sometimes things just happen.

Last time that happened to me, it was in my '95 F250, and it ended up being some wiring shorting the battery to ground and frying the TPS (throttle position sensor). Only difference between what you described and what I experienced is that it 'bucked' a bit before it ended up just dying.
Not sure if our trucks have these, but it's a thought.

Check to see if you have good battery terminal connections an to the fuse box above the radiator area.

I'll check into the battery connection and fuse box, not sure what to really look for in the fuse box. And no I do not have an excess amount of key's swinging.
I find it hard to believe it was a fluke however. I have been driving a car for 17 years (give or take) and have never had this happen to me before. I figure it is something electrical.

I had this happen last week while pulling my relatively small TT. I was at a dead stop at a stop light and it just shut down and the oil pressure msg came up. Started her back up, stressed the rest of my drive but it never happened again. I double checked my oil...fine...battery connections...fine as well. This seems to a be fairly common occurance.

It can also do it with a small vacuum leak, then the ECU turns the trany temp gauge nutz for some time also. Look into the air intake areas if you continue.
