My uncles neighbor's brother's friend had the same problem with his 09 Ecoboost.

I'd think the current design would be eclipsed (in durability) by an engine cranking out a **** ton more power, at least in reliability.

I think for warranty (and built FORD TOUGH) you'd need something more robust. (clarify: better drive shaft and/or ujoints and bearings. As a start)
The New Raptor already puts out 450hp and 510tq. The "regular" F150 Eco 3.5 puts out 375hp and 470tq in 2017

There are a lot of tuned Gen 1 eco's putting down decent numbers with no ill effects. A good tuner and tune are important along with running quality gas.

Other than the new Raptor already running those number, yes a tune will void your warranty if you are caught with it loaded (plenty of threads on this topic).

IMO, considering the Eco already puts down those numbers, I can't see why they would do the same with a turbo V8. It would have to put down higher numbers (which would be awesome) or continue to be NA.

The 4.8 is rumored to be for the Bronco and Ranger coming down the pipe.

Makes good sense. An keeping a tune in a EB all the time is mostly just like having the biggest motor on a bass boat.

Now that to "me" doesn't make much sense.
5.0 NA V8 (assuming that still is the only V8 in the F150 by 2019) in Ford full size pickup, but put a 4.8 V8 in the much smaller midsize truck?
I myself envisioned the new 3.3 NA V6 going into the Ranger and Bronco as a entry level engine and the 2.7 EB V6 being a option.

I think a 4.8 V8 in the Ranger would hurt F150 sales,it's capability as far as output would be too close to the 5.0 V8 F150,not to mention I just can't see Ford putting that big for a engine (big for a Ranger) in the Ranger.
The Johnson's next door looking for a truck as a daily driver would just option for the Ranger when they see the numbers between the 2.Not that selling Rangers are a bad thing obviously, but F150s is Fords cash cow/golden jewel.

The 4.8 is supposed to be the 5.0's replacement and it WILL outperform the 5.0 in power and efficiency.

If buying new then it probably doesn't matter. If buying used with 100k+ miles, keep in mind a replacement 5L is about $2000 less than a replacement 3.5Eco. The cost to install is probably close so $2000 is the risk difference between the two. Odds are you won't grenade the motor but if you do, one is cheaper to replace than the other.

I don't think anyone will argue that the ecoboost feels, and is faster than the 5.0 and 6.2. The real discussion is about longevity and engine design. The eco has inherent design flaws. The 5.0 has some issues, not like the eco, and doesn't require nearly as frequent upkeep. The 6.2 is the bulletproof workhorse that just goes and goes.
