Default 5.0 using alot of oil??

Trying to search with no real answers. 126k miles and using 2 quarts between oil changes. The PCV valve does have alot of oil in it. It doesnt seem stuck, could this still be causing the problem?

How many miles do you drive a year? Roughly how many times a year do you think you change your oil?

If you don't drive very much the computer will only tell you to change the oil once a year and if that's the case then burning 1 quart of oil every 6 months doesn't seem unreasonable. If you drive a lot and you're burning a quart a week, then that's a different story.

I drive a pretty fair amount, maybe 15k per year. Changing more often than once per year. Soaking the PCV in vinegar and it is definitely full of crud, no way could it be sealing correctly. I might just go grab a new one.

That should be a good start, PCV is the culprit many times for burning oil.

Mine burns less than 1/2 quart in 10,000 miles; of course only have 70,000 miles.

If the PCV doesn't fix the issue, you may want to try a 5w30 oil instead.

Do you idle your truck more than average? New a guy who worked for TxDOT and they had a fleet of fords that would burn a quart of oil in a week if they idled for extended periods of time cause guys didn't give a crap about those fleet trucks.

Fix the PCV and see if that does it. If not, I would run a 5 or 10W-30 and it should help cut down consumption. I have run the 5W-30 a couple years ago in my 5.0 with no problems whatsoever.

My truck also burns a lot of oil. About 2qts per OCI which average 8500 miles or so, based on IOLM. No excessive oil in PCV track but had a slightly oily plug in #8 when I did plugs early at 50k'ish. I do like thinner oil, though (xW-20) as sometimes I have to run it a little fast while cold due to emergency calls.
