5.0 starting problem
This afternoon when I tried to start my truck, it cranked but didn't start. No misfire, no sign of life. Tried few times (engine keeps on cranking by itself for many seconds) with same result. Waited one minute, tried again, with gas pedal depressed or not, always same result = doesn't start.
No check engine light; Look's like there was no fuel or no spark ...
I had no time to call and wait for a towing so I tried to reset the ECU by disconnecting battery for few minutes.
Craked engine and it started fine, with a little more cranking time it use to. Turned off, cranked again and it started as usual.
I went directly to my local dealer and he said he had no idea of what happened. I'm not to confident and feel that this problem will get back and then the ECU reset might no work.
Has somebody got a similar problem ?

How low do you usually run you fuel tank to?
What's the usual fuel level in your tank?

Sometimes they flood after setting some time but not enough time to be actually a cold engine. Then you gave it 15 or 20 minutes when you reset the ECU. An it started. Did it run some rough for a few ?

With no Code it must have flooded. Possibly the spark plugs have opened up to .044 or so.

X2, sorry: reverted to 3.5L thinking. Still check the plug gaps, maybe + .060" now. They burn away fast when opened up.

- It is difficult to flood an EFI engine unless there are injector issues.
. - next time it happens try this ...
.- turn the ignition key to the -ON- position but DO NOT activate the starter.
. - wait 30-60 seconds before turning the key to activate the starter. *You're priming the fuel system before starting.
IF this resolves the excessive cranking issue, start diagnosing the fuel pressure regulator and/or pump. *Could also be fuel filter (in tank).
IF this doesn't resolve the excessive cranking issue, start looking for an injector or timing issue.
- turn the ignition key to the -ON- position but DO NOT activate the starter.
Afterthought .... Check your air filter.
