Default 5.0 sound

I know this my have been talked about. and it may sound like a dumb question but is it normal for the 5.0 to sound like a diesel at idle. I think its the overhead cams but I am not use to the sound. This is my first engine with overhead cams.

Could be piston slap. It seems to be a common occurrence with the Coyote. Are your oil levels ok? Does it always make the noise or just cold/cool for a shortish period?

Kind of comes and goes. It does it more when cold/cool but has done it when it is at normal temp.

They sound funny at idle when they are cold due to the condensation spitting out of the provided hole in the muffler.

I've heard that the new direct injection engines make a diesel-like tapping/clicking noise at idle, especially when it's cold outside.

The reason is because DI engines use high-pressure fuel injectors, and different fuel pumps, so they make these noises.

The 5.0 is not a direct injection motor. Only the ecoboost. Diesel noise is not normal.

Its the fuel injectors making the noise.. thats why Ford uses the sound foam over injectors. They tend to make more noise when cold.
