5.0 oil consumption
#422
Well I'm at 43,xxx miles and I just put the ford oil in. I'm hoping it will stop. Then again my motor will probably only go above 2,800 rpm once or twice every 8,000 miles. ( I drive like Helen Keller)

Synthetic users, what full synthetic are you using that does not lead to oil consumption issues?
Only 1.5K on the odo now but appears I might have a good one as I have no consumption issues on MC Syn Blend and trying to pick a synthetic.
13 FX4 Screw, built Aug 13 purchased Oct 13 w/100 miles. Break in was varied driving with run ups to 3-4k rmps on the long way home twice a week using manual. Now I drive as normal.

I have a '13 F150 with the 5.0L. At 3,500 miles it's nearly down a quart. As a former engine tech I HATE oil burners. That being said, my off road rig is a trail built '09 Jeep JK with their old minivan 3.8L V6. Chrysler calls for 5w-20 oil in the JK 3.8s and they are notorious oil users. Chrysler says 1qt in 1,000 miles is OK, naturally that's BS. However, what we found was they'd stop using oil if switched to 5w-30. Others found bad PCV valves. Over time we found that the 5w-20 in the 3.8L gets vaporized and burned pretty easily, which clogs the PCV. A switch to a new PCV and 5w-30 has fixed many of these rigs. Mine settled down as soon as I switched to 5w-30, I haven't swapped out the PCV yet.
Wondering if any of you have tried a switch to 5w-30? From what we've read, 5w-20 is specified to ensure the engines meet cold running emissions specs throughout the 50 States. May be worth a switch if you have an oil burner, the weight change won't harm the engine.
