How easily can the catch can be removed in case I have to take my truck in for warranty? I don't want to void my warranty, so does anyone know if installing the catch can would void my warranty?

I'm interested in the warranty question. I guess it should be really easy to take it out and swap the stock tube back in. I'm interested in picking up the UPR kit for my truck. I do short trips to work, 4 miles each way. So catching any water vapor in the winter is what really interests me. On my old '03 F150, the white gunk hanging from the oil cap this time of year always made me cringe. I just changed the oil more often as a result.

Also, UPR's site says the hoses have been upgraded. I've read earlier complaints of the hoses collapsing. Has anyone purchased the kit recently with the hoses provided by UPR? From their website:

Question: Does your hose fall apart or collapse?

Answer: No we’ve upgraded to Oil Resistant Performance Hose, not heater hose or rubber hose.

It takes less than five minutes to remove one. I just take mine off when it goes to the dealer. I did leave it on once when they had to look at the AC and they said nothing about it. They are very easy to remove and put back on.

I had one on my Ram 1500 with a Hemi. They knew what it is, and appreciate the attention to detail. If they have a problem with it, find a real mechanic to explain it to them.

I wonder why I have managed to own a dozen or more vehicles over the last 30 years, and never had a catch can on any of those vehicles? Never had one oil related engine failure either. I think the money would be better spent on a by-pass oil filtration set up.

And how much does this catch can you guys a swooning over cost? I saw one for $120 bucks. I imagine I could buy a by-pass filtration set up and a pretty good amount of oil for that amount of money.

If your truck is using oil, study the easy to obtain info on how to break in an internal combustion engine.

Nice to be here, hello to everyone. Saw this post on the forum and decided to join to relay my experience.

My 5.0 used quite a bit of oil for the first 5K miles, around 1.5 qts. It seems to have slowed down to at least half of that. While I wouldn't think that 1 qt. in 3K would be considered excessive, I would prefer it to be less than that, and I think I'm under that now. Got about 1500 miles on the first oil change, and it has used less than 1/4 of a quart.

I assumed that "engine break in" was kind of a thing of the past, but at least with mine, it does seem that it needed to break in a bit.

I do know that how hard you work 'em can sometimes make a big difference in the modern engines. My Nissan doesn't use oil unless I work it, then it uses quite a bit.

So YES, mine uses oil too, but seems to be improving to an acceptable level as it breaks in.

My UPR kit came last Friday... It was missing two 90* elbows. Also, the hole machined in the bracket that mounts to the radiator shroud was machined too small and the provided bolt would not fit through the hole. Not impressed at all. Sure, I could head to my local hardware store and pick up two 5/8 elbows and a smaller bolt for a couple bucks. But for what they charge for this kit, I'm surely not going to do that.

I called them and the guy on the phone questioned if possibly my instructions were wrong telling me to use the additional 90* elbows. I'm like, hey man they show a picture of the engine in my truck in the instructions.... They are sending me another mounting bracket (hopefully it's machine correctly this time) and elbows out this week. Poopy QC if you ask me.
