5.0 oil consumption

The advice was to drive normally for a few miles, dog the truck for a few miles, then, run it normally. The dealership I purchased from is about 100 miles away, so, I cycled the motor like this all the way home and have been driving it hard everyday and ran it at the track about a dozen times. So far ... so good.

I am glad I read this thread out of the blue. I just went out and checked my 2012 XLT with 3107 miles yep down a quart. I have never had to add oil in a new vehicle before. I am not engine handy but glad I read this and glad I checked oil.

Just keep a check on it............mine used more for the first 10K miles than I was accustom to.........but around 10K it all gets normal.

Like others, after reading this, I went and checked mine (1,900 miles) and found it low a quart....NEVER had this happen before on any vehicle...I hope that parts get 'friendly' with each other and consumption goes way down....

5.0 stop burning oil
I also have a oil burning 2011 F150 with the 5.0. I wanted the 5.0 because I didn't consider it a new engine like the Eco Boost. This is my first and last Ford truck. I don't buy foreign autos but now I understand why all the yuppies are riding around proud of their Tundras. I have burned 2 1/2 qts. in 8000 miles and doing consumption test now but have already been told at dealer that this is normal oil use.
Update on my 2011 F150 with the 5.0, dealer started a oil consumption test on my truck at 8,300 miles. I got Mobile 1 Full Synthetic for the oil change and this is the GREAT news I have driven about 3,200 miles and may have used a 1/4 of a quart!!!! I have to say I'm almost 60 years old and have never bought a vehicle with a oil using break in period. Back to luvn my 150.
