I just traded in a 13 5.0 and picked up a 2014 Eco and was reading through this thread. I do have the deflector on the top. Build date was 11/13 Should I leave it alone unless it has a problem or remove the deflector? I have a tune from 5star that I plan on uploading in the future. Does a tune make any difference on this issue? Also did ford ever fix the spark plug gap or should I check them? Sorry guys just getting up to speed.

Always check plugs and plug gap,
But the fix I describe is guaranteed to work or buy it back....no BS or political games like the small group of haters that have no background in the auto motive manufacturing side as I do. And with the Ford dealers endorsing the fix from first hand experience, pretty straightforward. No risk to prove it works, period.

From a company with an F rating from the BBB, I think people trying "fixes" would be best to review all data on a company before making a purchase.

No hate just the facts which often get left out for marketing purposes.
Also interesting to note that this year, in the season where it happens most, we have seen fewer shudder posts than before. So either Ford's TSB has worked and the new ones are fine or people don't want to report it.
And there are a lot of other factors that can cause the misfire besides water ingestion:
Plugs seem to be the top culprit as the EB loves to wear them down and is sensitive to mismatched gaps. Coils and boots also should be looked at as when in damp conditions there may be arcing.

You are this desperate to attack a proven fix? This complaint is from a returned item damaged by the customer beyond repair....no company would have a policy to refund something 6 months after purchase returned with the product damaged beyond repair.
You so pathetic playing these games......go back to your computer network job and leave the real automotive tech to those with the experience.
This is a widespread problem, actually the #1 complaint with ecoboost owners, and Ford service centers have proven this fix to work.

My service manager met directly with the engineers at the factory and took them to task on the coil issues. Apparently they know they have an issue, many poor coils, but won't address, issue a TSB, notification, heads up, or anything.
Head in the sand approach.

Makes me wonder if it is truly better than the old 4-6-8 coils and wires or even the old 1 coil and wires system.
Or even if someone could come up with a reliable way to test these things. Back in the day it was resistance and from what I've read that's not an option anymore and it's basically "replace if you think you have an issue."

Back from the dealer with TSB 14-0017 complied with. Every thing seems ok truck runs nice as usual. If I get the hot humid rainy weather I will take it out on the interstate to see if it shutters again, time will tell. However I have decided to purchase and install the rx catch can in the near future. I am just one that would like to keep my intake as clean as possible. Who knows it might even pay off in the long run.
