3.5 ecoboost MPG
I just took my first road trip in my 2011 screw. It only has 400 miles on it. On the ride back home I clocked the gas mileage. I went a little over 100 miles all highway and I got about 16mpg. Will this get better after I clock some more miles on it? I always heard you cant go by the first 1000 miles, I'm not sure if that holds true with ecoboost engines.

I have a 2012 SCREW eco max tow with the 3.73. I too only have about 400 miles on mine. So far my average is sitting at 16.8. Yesterday I took a trip up to the local ski mountain (about 100 miles round trip). I reset one of my trip meters before the trip. I was very impressed with what I saw. I got up to 19 MPG at one point and I think I ended the trip at 18.6. Keep in mind some of this was slow driving with even a little 4x4 time in there. Anyway, I had a 2011 5.0 and took the same trip in that truck. With the eco I am seeing about 1MPG better overall. I hope that over time it will break in and I will see a little better economy, but either way for a truck I am happy with what I am getting.

Mine has not changed since day 1, I have 5,600 miles on it now.
After reading all of the MPG threads on this site and many others, you can get the mileage the sticker advertises but it is HIGHLY affected by your driving style. Drive it like grandma, you'll see the numbers. Do a test run with cruise on, 60-65, highway without much deviation in elevation and you will see 22-23 mpg.
Drive it like a man, 14 around town, 17-18 highway.

Thanks Todd. I would be very happy with seeing 19. I had a 4.6 expedition that got around 3 telephone poles a gallon, so even the 16 I'm seeing now is great.

Not sure if it will improve, its probably your driving style. Mine did 23 mpg from mile 1, but i never go faster than 60 and always use cruise, even around town. And if you can hear the turbos you arent getting good fuel economy. Watch the green bar, if it dips below the feint white line you are giving it too much throttle.

It will improve. Mine did. Right around 1000 miles. Was getting 12 at first but now I am at 15.2 city and 17-18 hwy @ 80 mph. Also running 93 octane helps to. But let's not go there....

Boost :)
I've got just over 13k miles on mine in 6 months and it has gotten almost the same MPG since day one. It has suffered slightly in the cold months so far as the gas quality goes to crap during this time of year, but hasn't changed a whole lot.
Now granted I have a FX2 w/ the 3.55 gearing which has shown to be just about the best for MPG in this truck. I have noticed that most people who complain about the mileage are 4x4 w/ the 3.73 gearing although you wouldn't think it would make THAT big of a difference.
Over the holidays I took a 3,000 mile round trip from Austin TX to San Diego CA and back. 90% highway driving and cruise control as low as 60 and as high as 85. HUGE elevation changes and lots of terrain changes and I averaged 20-21mpg for the entire duration of the trip.
I guess I am one of the lucky ones but I can easily get 17mpg on a tank of 100% city driving and get 20-22 depending on highway speed / cruise settings on the highway. Truck sticker said 16/22 so I am getting exactly what was advertised. Extremely pleased.

Buy gasoline "only" from a very high volume station (at least two deliveries a month). If it is available in your area see if you can get real gasoline (no ethanol). A name brand station is NOT a sign of gas quality.
The EPA has essentially messed up the gasoline supply big time and it will get worse because of the push by K Street corruption.
