S at cold start. It got so bad it set light/code, so I got lucky. There is an injector problem/fuel sensitivity with this fuel system.

FUEL INJECTOR REPLACEMENT!!
This is one of the very few threads that outlines what I belive is causing these "studder" or "poor mileage" or "miss firing" issues.
Its not IC condensation or any of that nonsense but i believe injectors.......
Glad you got it all fixed up!

Good points guys..the injector problem is seen most easily at Cold start. Mine was so bad it set 302, 316 code..I could very well see a miss, shudder on load, fuel oil dilution problems. I got very lucky. Did not see anything for 22000 miles, used Muphy fuel. Oil analysis showed good viscosity, however had wear metals elevated but also had high silicon levels.

This is exactly what I passed on to dealer, will notice miss at cold/overnight starts only, once the PCM starts adjusting it smooths out and you will not detect a miss..
Mine ran very smooth for 2 weeks but is now starting to shake a little at cold start again. Hope they dont tell me its another injector..
I have been chomping at the bit to modify mine, but that is out the window now, No exhaust, no tune, no intake..I dont want to fight Ford any more then I already am.
Its in the shop again..speaker problem, shake at cold start, disappearing guidelines, coolant smell...Not even to mention the crappy Oil analysis..
If it gets any worst I will have to sell..There is alot of vehicles out there that are having problems with the badly designed fuel systems..pumps/injectors its out there, just have to read between the lines..
Word to the wise, be careful with mods and accessories, until someone puts some good miles on theirs..

If the EB is a direct injection setup, then I can add some info from other mfgs. We moved from an Audi to the F150, and one of the growing issues with Audi is that the direct injection system doesn't survive long without good detergent fuel or having to do a strip down to clean injectors and valves.
Something about how the fuel not being passed through the valve/intake process allows more build-up of crud.
Having been used to using only Chevron, and Premium in the Audi, I've been doing the same with the truck. We tow our travel trailer every other week, so keeping premium in the tank seems reasonable as I don't want any detonation during towing. Living in the mtns here in Tahoe means hard pulls anytime we hit the road.
We also have a Range Rover Sport that has (others, not me) issues with its direct injected 5.0 Jag engine, and requires some heavy duty injection cleaning periodically. I use only Chevron for it as well, and not had any problems.

I was very disappointed to read that top tier gas list because where I live there isn't one of those gas stations for 30 miles. My choices are marathon or Murphy USA, I've been using Murphy but my last few tanks has been marathon and I feel like I'm getting a little better mileage. I was hoping with the STP additives it would e considered top tier
