Welcome to the forum, fordtrucktough. How many miles are on your truck? Did you return to the dealership to let them know that the sound came back?

Thank you! A little over 60K. Sadly, I feel like if that dealership has given me the run around so many times that I didn't want to take it back. I've taken it in twice for that noise and twice over a overheating problem. The first time they told me it was a hose, second time it was a pan, so no more. At least not to that one.

You're always welcome to get a second opinion at a different Ford Dealership, fordtrucktough. If you need assistance locating one, just send me a PM with your ZIP code and I'll get you a list.

I have the same year and make truck as yours, and that definitely sounds like a issue. My truck sounds like the other guys video which I think is normal as far as the light tick, that sounds like injectors but yours is much harder and louder.

That's definitely way more of a defined tick than mine...

I haven't addressed the issue yet, you can definitely tell there's something just not right. If you listen carefully in the cab (in silence) you can hear a light "thud" during the tick.

Well, just hit 10k and the tick has actually nearly gone away. I am not sure if it is due to the weather change (affect on viscosity of the oil) or just the engine "breaking in". I've been listening to other 2013 -2014 5.0s and most all have the same ratchety tick.

I feel like a broken record each time i respond to these threads, but these are similar noises to the one i had and i got a new short block out of it. I just hate hearing the "its normal" explanation.

This is the sound my '12 was making last month. It has 79,000 miles on it. This was at a drive thru so the sound was bouncing off the wall making it louder than normal.

It had the slight tick when new and graduated to this just within the last few months.

Engine was pulled and opened up. They found scarring and hot spots on the #3 cylinder walls attributed to the piston rubbing too much in certain spots. Extended warranty is paying for a new short block and should have my truck back on Monday.

Do not let your warranty expire without exhausting your options. One piece of advice i found online is that when you take it to the dealer, have them isolate each cylinder til the sound stops. That will be where the issue is. It was #3 for me and most are either the #3 or #4 cylinder.

I thought this was just a late '11 to early '12 build issue but maybe not.

No sweat Bogey...any information is good, even repeated. I've been there with the Ecoboost. Loved it until the hard miss and constant bog...no one believed me at the dealership, I was the first to complain and did so VERY often. I'm sure I'll be posting in this thread again, I hate noises that don't belong...

Just found this thread , I just bought a used 2012 F150 with the 5.0. It has 23000 miles and a very faint tick and a very faint piston slap sound also but again both are very faint and sound exactly like my 2011 Tundra 5.7 did from new up until 37k when I traded it. My f150 is not nearly as loud as the ones in any of the videos, but it is noticeable if looking and listening for it. So I have a couple questions for the people who have it loud.
Do you think since Im already at 23k its as loud as it will get or is this something that will just get louder as time goes on? My Tundra never changed or got louder and this F150 sounds identical right now.
How common is it with this 2012 year and are most ending up with the loud slap sound in a couple of the videos.
Also it sounds like Ford is aware of it so if it gets loud and I take it in will it be addressed promptly?
Thank God I got the 7yr 125k mile premium warranty.

Hopefully you wont end up being a <1%'er. Enjoy the new truck. You have a while to see if yours develops the knock. What is the build date? I ended up trading mine last weekend for a '14 Eco Boost
