For problems like this the SA's know damn well what the problem is. It sucks that some of them play this game with you instead of just changing the part and being done with it. Personally, I don't have time for this duplication roulette silliness. And secondly, in the mean time it's more than an annoyance, it's a freaking safety issue. When I was having my issues I was pulling my RV in the mountains and just praying that it didn't die on me on a curve with no shoulder to pull off on. The part cost me about $200 bucks from Ford, and it's an easy part to change. Do it, tell your dealer they suck, and boom...you're done. The time spend leaving my truck or sitting in the waiting room and then being frustrated....I'd rather spend the money. Yeah...probably the exact result they're hoping for, but I have better things to do. My 2 cents.

I think I like the response from a friend of mine the best when I told him what was going on:

“That's BS that they can't do anything without a code. Mechanics can diagnose without computers... And I literally think that's bull****. I don't think that is actually right. I think that there are many things that a computer is not going to diagnose. Like what if the rear end went wrong. There's no computer hooked up to that and it would be covered under warranty. Or a leaf spring failed. There's no computer.“

I’m sitting at Subaru with my wife’s car and it’s amazing how much better they treat their customers. I’m also here on a Saturday getting her car fixed while Ford wouldn’t mess with mine until Monday. Heck, at Subaru - when I showed up the service advisor had my part waiting on his desk to ensure I was taken care of and nothing happened to it.

I get that I can just fix it myself. But why does my truck even have a “bumper to bumper” warranty then???? Also, where is the customer service? I spent $50k+ on this truck! If I was at any other high end dealer they’d be kissing my *** to ensure I’m satisfied. Hell, they’d at least be nice - the service advisor basically laughed at me when I asked to get my truck fixed.

I mean, it’s a $190 part at full retail - you’d think they could spare $100 to make a return customer happy and help keep his family safe. That’s just baaaad juju Ford.

Just replace my ETB. 2012 F150 with 105,000 miles. Pulled out of a friends driveway on Friday to head for home and CEL came on and then the big wrench. Shut truck down drove towards home and about 1/2 mile down the road truck shuddered, CEL and big Wrench appeared and no throttle. Shut truck down restarted and made it home with just one more shut down. Plugged Torque App in and got the P2112 code. Pulled Throttle body cleaned up the butterfly and chamber and then decided to pull the cover off the side to inspect actual position sensor. Found the cavity where the motor sits filled with oil. Cleaned everything thing up and put everything back together. Truck started and ran down the road for a mile and then shut off with the P2112 code again. Found a nearby Ford dealer with a ETB in stock picked it up on Saturday got it installed, did the drain chip reset trick suggested by Makuloco as well as the let the truck idle for 15 minutes after ETB install. Took it for a test drive and all is well. Sure wish I had picked up a ETB online earlier to have on hand so I could have saved $75.00 vs the local dealers $200 price. With all of the oil in the ETB I decided to go ahead and drill the intercooler. Fair amount of oil drained out, probably should have done that much sooner.

Interesting, I hadn't heard about oil in there. Mine was clean when it failed. In preparation for this year's camping season I'm gong to carry a few parts that are frequent offenders and easy to change on the roadside or at the campground. Two for sure are spark plugs and a coil pack. A ETB is tempting. At the first sign of an ETB hiccup I definitely will be carrying one.
