Default 2013 Motor Trend Truck Of The Year

Did anyone else read the Article? They picked the Ram as the winner but some or their remarks were stupid.Empty no trailer EcoBoost F-150 Supercrew 4X4,0-60 6.6 seconds,1/4 mile 15.2 at 91.7 mph. With a 8,475 lb.trailer 0-60 15.7 seconds and 1/4 mile 20.5 seconds at 67.5 mph. Then they test the Hemi Ram Emty no trailer 0-60 6.9 seconds,1/4 mile 15.4 at 88.6 mph. With trailer 0-60 15.0 seconds,1/4 mile 20.0 seconds at 69.4 mph.Yes it's faster then the EcoBoost with a trailer but the trailer behind the Ram was only 7,500 lbs. Then they say acceleration with the trailer is where the V8 came alive, duh the trailer was almost 1,000 lbs lighter. They also made a remark about how the 5.0 might be better towing then the EcoBoost i don't know what they're thinking.

Later Mark.

I'm not saying the Ram didn't deserve to win because it probably did. But keep in mind these are the same morons that picked the Honda Ridgeline for truck of the year 6 or 7 years ago.

I didn't think they even had the 8spd auto in the hemi ram. If its the 6spd hemi then how did the Ecoboost dust it in the torture tests when towing a trailer? Magazine tests are usually biased to whoever is doing more upgrades that year are which company bought more ad space. 2014-2015 will be more competition with style and engine changes.

Agreed. Seems like a cool truck but te logic in the towing comparison erodes credibility...

I bought my truck on my own research, price, test drive, and slight personal preference for the blue oval. Not from a magazine that depends on advertisement money. They need something to be proud about on the Ram forums!

Default I call bull**** on Motortrend

All MT is doing is rotating between the manufactures (most of the time). You can't look at this list and not see the inconsistencies. For example: the 2011 and 12 F150's are identical, yet in 2011 the Silverado wins and in 2012 the F150 wins.

2013 Ram 1500
2012 Ford F-150
2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD
2010 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty
2009 Ford F-150
2008 Toyota Tundra
2007 Chevrolet Silverado
2006 Honda Ridgeline
2005 Toyota Tacoma
2004 Ford F-150
2003 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche
2001 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty
2000 Toyota Tundra
1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Exactly. They needed to throw a bone to GM.

MT has a long history of picking lousy products and market failures. They seem to be enthralled with "something different" but it not necessarily good.

They towed with up to 75% of towing capacity of both trucks... Ecoboost is still the engine to have.

They did the test to early because Ram has suggested that it will be rated to tow close to 11,000 so they guessed. Bad logic for sure.

One thing you need to do is look at the testing criteria they used to determine TOTY. Think about the advancement between the ram and the F150, the ram advanced a hell of a lot more between 12' and 13' while the F150 had little change. MT even states this that it didn't improve enough to get the win two years running. They are right, it didn't improve or change much as all. It doesn't mean the ram is a better truck, just that it met their criteria better. Ford called the 13' F150 new when it's barely even a refresh. New grille, stereo, and on some models new headlights, hardly new to me.

I can understand that but why praise the Hemi V-8,put the 8,475 lb trailer behind the Hemi.If they would have did that which IMO that would have been more fair then the 7,500 lb. trailer the Hemi pulled. Then they could praise the V-8.I'm sure a 8,475 lb.trailer behind both of them the EcoBoost would have won the 0-60 test and the 1/4 mile towing test?

Later Mark.
