Default 2013 5.0 break in..

Why is it bad to have first 1000 miles be at 70 mph on cruise? Curious as I have read I needed to vary speeds. I put 150 of city driving on then long road trip on cruise. Curious if I caused damage? Thanks.

I was brought up to believe you break them in the way you plan to drive them.

If you check the manual don't tow for the first 1000 miles is the biggest statement they make. Other then that drive it like you stole it. I doubt you did any damage to it even in cruise. Feel free to drive the snot out of it now still....break it in.

Drive it like you stole it.

It's got a warranty.

Over the years I have traveled out of town to purchase new vehicles. I still believe the best medicine for a new motor is to drive it a few hundred miles on the way home. I can't see how driving in stop and go city traffic on short trips is a good way to seat in a new motor. Never had any issues with the vehicles I drove this way but I also believe in finding any weakness early on. Put the supercharger on my truck at 11k miles and I can assure you prior to that I was not light on the pedal on occasion. There is a difference between driving a vehicle hard and running it into the ground though...

I have the same truck and engine. I put a couple of hundred miles on it, then went on a 300 mile trip in it, cruise set at 70. The truck has 9k miles on it now. I haven't noticed any oil consumption or ill effects from the long highway drive during break in. I wouldn't worry.

I drove mine like I stole it when new. Used the gears to slow it down instead of the brakes for the first 500 miles. Now I did not go bouncing it off the rev limiter and varied my hwy speed for the first 1000 miles. I have just under 20,000 on it now and it uses no oil except what I catch in the PCV catch can.
