2011 FX4 Eco: Needs new catalytic convertor; other work needed?
My 2011 FX4 had a constant on check engine light (for the past few days), but no driveability issues. Dealer had it today and has booked another appt this week to have the left bank catalytic convertor replaced under warranty.
Do I need to check with them to ensure that they will be investigating the cause of the failed cat? My worry is that my truck needs to have some of the tsb work (cac, intercooler, re-flash, etc). Is this something the dealer will do by default or do I need to request that they review associated tsb's? I'm just worried as catalytic converters rarely just up and fail. I've never noticed the heavy acceleration stuttering or anything yet, but I've only owned the truck for a month and it's been too cold for most condensation issues.
If there is a tsb that I should print out as bring in with me, do you know the tsb number that I should refer to?
Thanks for any help!

Did you ever run a tune?

I wouldn't worry about the left bank is the one that has been replaced on many trucks. They did mine with 20000 kms on it. I've never had the condensation problem with mine. If you were to run it hard a few times it would probably clean up the cat. I was making short trips with a lot idling and running hard made the light go out before the cat was replaced. I wasn't tuned at that time either.

Nope, I'm not running any tunes and the truck is 100% stock. I just picked it up from the dealer (until Thursday when they do the install) and the service rep said that the engine code was P0430.
So I'm pretty safe to assume that it's just a random fouled catalytic convertor?

There have been a couple reports of bad cats with no other issues. See a new post in towing related to moving a daughter-his cat went bad too.
I asked about tunes because sometimes if they aren't running properly it can foul cats.

That's the case with stock it ran rich on real cold mornings with black smoke. Add 2 mile runs on that and shutting it bye bye cat

Hmm, that could be then. I live in Northern BC and it gets fairly cold in the winter. Combine that with most of my trips being under 5km and I guess that could lessen the life of the cat. Is there anything I can do to prevent something like this from happening again?

I had my pass side catalyst replaced over 30k ago. The dealer installed a little plastic air deflector on my cac / had zero issues since then. Also been tuned since 7 k and have 53k on the clock

I would suggest tuning it with my unleashed tune it doesn't run as rich colder mornings. Mine stock at -10c was real bad stock. It hasn't been that cold since I've been running my MPT so can't comment on that one.

I bring mine into the shop tomorrow to replace the left bank cat. Out of interest from when your's went, did the cat go and then the dealer did the work to the CAC to address the core issue? Or were you having other engine issues and they changed the cat and modified the CAC to help?
