What made you buy a 3.7 with the intention of towing over 12'000 lbs? Reason I bought one is because I know I won't be towing over 6000 lbs. You would really benefit from owning a superduty.

I'm calling bull on 12,500 plus whatever the rest of those imaginary trailers are. There is no way that truck could move that weight over 20mph let alone highway speeds. Even if by some chance Newtonian physics don't apply to you on acceleration, the stopping distance would be awful. Towing that kind of weight is ridiculously dangerous and deadly for not only you but all of the other people around you.
I need a video of you towing that weight or I don't believe that it's even possible.

Dude, trucks 30 years ago didn't have over 200 HP and pulled that kind of weight all day long. It may be slower getting up to speed, but it can do it.
I've driven dump trucks built in the 50s that had less than 200 HP. Loaded up with corn and gravel it was a dog, but it would pull. Course, it had a hi-lo transmission and who knows what rear end, but still! Getting a 12,000 lb load moving is certainly possible for the 3.7. Not a good idea, but not my truck either!

I pulled my 1950 F1 today. No problems at all. When getting on the freeway I floored it just to see and in no time I was at 6800 rpm and 70 mph. Had to slow down once I got on the freeway. The 3.7 pulls great for the size of the engine.

wow, that 1950 truck is beautiful. The 3.7L has plenty of pulling power and I'm very happy with the performance. It's not stump pulling torque like the Ecoboost I had, but it's been bullet proof without the mechanical issues of the Ecoboost.

An engine that has to spin to 6000 rpm isn't a towing engine. You should have bought a 5.0 Mustang as your tow vehicle if you wanted to be able to spin to 6 grand.

Not only is it possible, if you don't mind some noise, it wouldn't even be all that pokey. 300hp is 300hp. Torque rating has more to do with how hard the engine will have to rev to make the horsepower, once you are rolling the 3,7 is great. It just needs to rev to make it's horsepower.
Just an FYI 290ft lbs at 2600 rpm is 145 hp, the same torque at 5200 rpms is 290hp. So the 3.7, which makes 300 hp at 6500, can do as much work as 600ft/lbs from a huge diesel does at 2600. Something to think about....

The 3.7l tows light to medium loads just fine. If you have a problem with people towing with a motor that you believe is not satisfactory for the job, start your own thread. You can call it "101 reasons why I think you are wrong". Until then, stop bashing the motor for no good reason.

Now, this has been a fun thread!! Thanks OP (xoiler was it?)! I reckon when I finally do get a new truck, I'll be surprised going from my '02 5.4. I just hope the new 3.5 V6 proves to be as good as the 3.7.
