IMHO the best thing would be to get it on notice at the dealer and then jump on Ford for a fix. Not sure if individual suits would help better or not but maybe there's a lawyer out there?

It would also be interesting to know just how many have this issue. Selling 200,000 Ecoboosts a year means even a 1% defect rate will seem large. But it is definitely something to be aware of and may make the warranty worth looking into for piece of mind.

I learned with a 2000 Explorer with the 4.0 SOHC (That ironically also had timing chain issues which was a common theme in them) that the Internet amplifies any issue. Tried to organize people and got a handful of responses.

Don't know what the answer is other than flood Ford with the issues and don't let up.

Maybe somebody should contact their local news station, show them this thread and see if they would be willing to run a special on the evening news. Maybe do an interview with the truck owner in front of the dealership that refuses to repair the truck under warranty. Putting them in the spotlight may be what it takes to get action. It's easy to brush people off if there is no visibility.

Wouldn't be a bad idea... We already have the greatest tool for spreading the word and that is the intrawebs. My video posting efforts alone have brought a few dozen more trucks out of the wood work and will continue to do so.

I'll continue making the videos until my truck breaks. This type of action from a consumer is embarrassing for Ford and also a deal breaker for people on the fence about the Eco. That's a pretty wide swathe of trucks affected by the TSB. Seems like that buddy with the fleet of Ecos 19 of 57 with broken chains wasn't too crazy afterall.

so I tried reading thru all 50somewhat pages of this thread, but ended up just scrolling thru most of it...

my truck is giving me the same issues that you all have, from the remote start not working all the time to the rattle during start up... I have noticed a few other odd things with my truck lately and it is in at the dealership right now with no answers yet (day 3) so here they are-

-remote start works intermittently
-rattles like a Mexican maraca on start up for about 1-2 seconds (remote or key'd start)
-idles choppy and nasty (sounds like a boat with the motor half out of water) for about 1 minute or less
-pushes black smoke during warm up for about 30 seconds to 1 minute
-idles back down to about 600rpm and hunts around the 550-650 range there after
-started hearing a rattling noise while sitting still at a red light
-gas mileage has gone to complete ****
-less power than usual

having all these things happen at once kind of has me a little worried. I know a lot of these things have been mentioned in this post and others, but to have them combine into one big cluster f**k of issues is mind boggling.... anyone else had all this happen at once?

Get your truck in to the shop and get it diagnosed and on the record. I also have very rough idle (during/after the noise usually). It lacks the power my old Eco had as well... No black smoke, but my mileage is not as good as my other Eco either. That could be the change from 17"s to the 20"s on this truck.

Here is what mine sounded like this morning October 16th 2014.

Has anyone here with rough idle checked spark plugs? My truck had the same start up noise and they have replaced several pars including chain and tensioner. I still get the noise but not as often but haven't been driving it as much either.

Anyhow I still have the rough idle I've been complaining since they started working on my truck. So I decided last week to check spark plugs since I read in another forums about plug gap can cause misfire/rough idle. To my surprise found out the spark plug on the passenger side closest to bumper had bunch of oil in the thread when I removed it. All other 5 were fine. Have an appointment next week.

huntnrig,

where did you buy your truck? I moved to Saskatoon about a year ago... also used to live on Vancouver Island... maybe I should go back and try calling the dealer that I bought it from?
