Question Just curious.....

What kind of oil were you using in the engine and how many miles between oil changes?

Just trying to figure out if it was due to following Fords' crazy 10k oil life monitor with Motorcraft semi-syn oil (or dealer bulk, who knows what it is oil), or was it destined to happen no matter what?
Hopefully it's an anomaly and part of a very low failure rate....better be because here in Houston you see A LOT of Ecoboost trucks!

Well, I'll be putting my ecoboost in the shop this week! It's cutting in and out has no power and the check engine light flashes and then sometime stays on constant!

Hey guys. My truck has started making that exact sound. (thanks ppl85 for posting that clip) I have been going thru the same thing, trying to get the sound on tape for the dealer. Finally did and went to my dealer to play it for them. I played it to three different mechanics and they had no idea what it was. It's going into the shop tomorrow afternoon and they said they have to hang on to it until it makes the sound for them. I'm going to mention your truck tbsvt and see what they say. I'm also having problems with the intercooler pulling moisture into the engine and I am on a waiting list for them to install a new revised intercooler to solve the problem. Did any of you guys have the stumbling problem from the intercooler before this sound started. Just wondering if the intercooler issue may have damaged the engine.

Thanks,

Also I forgot to mention that all of my service and oil changes have been done by Ford so it can't be an oil filter issue.

Hey, yeah mention everything I said it was right from the work order. That bill was over 14k, hope it works out, there is definitely a motor issue.

Hey guys. So my truck was in with ford for 6 weeks. The dealer basically had to follow what ford canada asked them to do to test to see what was making the noise. Finally they decided that the noise was coming from the cam timing chain area and took the motor apart. They told me that Ford Canada recommended that they change the cam chain tensioners. I told them that I was suspecting the cam phasers but they could not touch them because head office would not allow it. This is when it got interesting. They ordered the parts (chain tensioners) but could not tell me when they were going to be in. They said the parts were back ordered from the parts supplier and there was no expected delivery date. So this meant I could be waiting for months. I know how this is because I ordered the new intercooler to fix the stumbling and stalling problem in January and it still hadn't come in yet in May. Long story short I had to put pressure on them to get the parts in and the intercooler and parts came in and they reassembled my truck. Within a day I noticed the truck developed a very load cam tick once it warmed up and its been getting louder. I have already brought it back to Ford and am awaiting what they are going to decide to do next. I think this engine is pooched ! I'll keep you posted. Cheers.

I had ford go through my truck for over a month. They did change the timing chain tensioners. Seems to have stopped the noise on startup. Never had an issue with the intercooler.

Thanks to the OP for posting this video. In addition to the turbo that's starting to make all sorts of crazy noises my truck makes this noise every day now on start up. I crossed 100k this morning so I'm starting to think instead of spending thousands to have it properly fixed, I may take that money, the money I was going to spend on a turbo, and put that towards a replacement 6.2l motor when this one blows up??

Hey Guys,

Well the dealer had my truck for 6 weeks. They ended up replacing the timing chain tensioners and totally ignored my concern about the cam phasers. It seemed to stop the morning startup noise but I brought it right back the very next day because the cams were making a racket, especially when warm and when just above idle. It sounded like marbles bouncing around in the top of the motor. two ford mechanics listened to it a scoped it and said it sounded wrong. they contacted the ford hotline with no answer and then requested an engineer. The problem was I was going on vacation the next day and needed the truck so they told me to go ahead and they would address it when I got back. Well 8 hours away from home and the motor failed. Lost most of its power when I was on the highway and had to do some fancy driving to avoid an accident in order to get my family and my rv trailer off the highway ! I limped it the rest of the way to our campground and then took it to the local dealer. They ripped the motor down again and a cam phaser had failed ands stuck. also the pin holding the cam chain gear onto the main crank had sheared off. they motor is done. Problem is they only want to do a short block and reuse my old heads. I'm not getting anywhere with them and I've been fighting with them now for over a week. These motors are faulty faulty faulty !!! and ford just wants to patch the problem until you are out of warranty. I'm never buying another Ford.
