Just traded in my 2011 Eco XLT for a 2011 Eco Lariat w/ full load. On cold starts it's making this noise. Powertrain warranty?

I have an appointment with Ford on Tuesday to get this looked at and my driveline noise issue I am having.

The noise sounds right, but it comes in a bit later than I was expecting. What did the dealer say?

The dealer has had it since yesterday @ 8:30 am no word back yet though. I posted on another forum where a Ford tech stated it sure sounded like the vacuum pump. After listening to your video and others videos I feel it's the timing chain but we'll see! I'll keep you all posted.

Hey huntnrig, just wanted to let you know that I'm keeping an eye on this thread as well. What's the odometer reading on your Lariat? Please keep me posted and send along that information (full name, VIN, best daytime contact number, dealer information, and an updated odometer reading) when you can so I can best assist.

Thanks!

Brittany

Hey Brittany,

Thank you for your attention. I'm going to sit tight until my service dept. gives me a call and can provide any answers. I bought the truck from a Ford dealer on Thursday. Cold start issue Friday morning. The truck had 64,199km when I dropped it off, so I understand there is no bumper-to-bumper.

I bought the truck on Thursday... trading in a perfectly fine 2011 Ecoboost XLT. With another child in the family we needed to have the bench seat in front so I thought i was moving "up" in trucks when I found this loaded Lariat.

This is my 4th Ford F-150 in a row and I love them like my Children. Having experienced a good Eco I just want this one to be the truck I know it can be!

I agree, it sounds like the chain, but I was thinking vacuum pump because of the timing.

If you just bought the truck, your state may allow you to cancel the purchase up to 3 business days after signing. You are out of warranty and this (if it's a timing chain) is an expensive repair. Because time is short you may want to invoke your right to void the purchase.

We don't have rescission period here in BC it's all on the dealer. I don't want to take the truck back. I want it fixed. If it's the timing chain the truck is still under the 100,000 powertrain warranty. If it's the vacuum pump the selling dealer will be coming to the party.

That sound is not the vacuum pump.

I certainly hope you're right! We should almost get a sidebet going lol... Hopefully this will help other Eco owners down the road.

Given the option I would MUCH prefer the vacuum pump to the timing chain. Far less money to repair and I wouldn't like the idea of my engine being torn apart.

Edit: just read that you are covered under warranty. Keep us updated.
