I’m convinced they all suck.. hoping GM just sucks less 😂.

213,000 miles now, rattling away in the mornings since 84,000. I've decided I'm pretty much done worrying about it. If she blows I get a new truck...but hoping to hit 300,000+. It's just not worth sticking money into it to try and fix it when rust is starting to eat the cab corners and bumpers, truck isn't worth much at this point. So I'll just keep driving.

Almost followed suit and got a 6.2 super duty like my dad...he's got 350,000 trouble free miles on his. Zero rust on his too, I don't get it.

The cab rust issues seem to be more related to washing habits and where people live (climate). Keeping the truck clean and power-washing around the corners and up under the chassis will do wonders to help prevent the rust. Sometimes dirt and rocks just kinda hang inside the drain holes allowing the water to build up and wear away at the coating and metal. People will fill the holes with fluid film to help as well. I'm obviously clueless as to yours and your fathers habits and how the trucks are parked, but it's a common factor I see when reading about the corner cab rust issues.

Wash and wax regularly.

Has anyone had timing chain noise that persists after start up? I've developed a knock that I believe to be piston related, however I'd like to rule out timing/valvetrain components as well.

I'm still running mine. It rattles here and there on startup and I cant seem to find a rhyme or reason to it. When it does do it, it only lasts maybe a second or so. I've never heard it last longer than that. I have developed a little bit of an exhaust manifold leak that seals up after 15 seconds or so on a cold start, i'm sure that will warp worse and worse until I get it fixed or get a new truck.

The only other symptom my truck really has is some hesitation when I am mildly accelerating. It typically happens in 2nd or 3rd gear under mild acceleration. RPM's will fluctuate 2-300 causing it to shift funny. Almost seems like a torque converter thing, but could be that my timing is getting out of wack I suppose. I don't know much about this stuff.

To answer your question, I haven't heard of anyones timing chain rattle persisting after start up. Mine has been rattling for around 30K miles.

Angry 13 F150 FX4 loud metallic like rattle at cold starts

My 13 F150 FX4 Eco has an extremely loud metallic like rattle at cold starts. How is this not a recall! And why in the world did I decide to give Ford another chance! I've heard many, many horror stories about timing changes and hydraulic tensioners. This is why I question American made vehicle warranties, especially with a 60K Truck. Any comments out there regarding remedies? Terrified to bring it to a dealer, because they are notorious for creating additional issues it seems.

I haven't really heard any remedies other than getting it fixed. Mine rattled 3 mornings in a row here about 3 weeks ago which was the first time I had heard it in about 3 months. It hasn't rattled since. I do recall mine rattling extremely bad last summer when I went and got an oil change in a hurry at valvoline and requested semi synthetic oil. I have been very religious with my oil change intervals and only run full synthetic oil since then. It does seem to help with the rattle. I'm just going to keep running mine. I just got my vacuum pump replaced under the extended warranty yesterday, so I don't have to listen to that on startup anymore. Too bad they don't have some sort of program like that for the timing chain. At least cover the parts or labor so it doesn't hurt so bad. If they did that, I would probably go get it fixed tomorrow.

One rattle is too much for me, I am fixing mine. I tow 1000's of miles from home and don't want to be stuck in XYZ town population 100 and have no options.

whats the damage of leaving the rattle unfixed? I've got a P0299 code, which i think my driver side turbo is leaking oil (or the wastegate is stuck). Could this code be affecting the ratttle or is this a timing chain issue?

This ecoboost engine is nothing but problems - already replaced the steering gear, coil packs, spark plugs, exhaust manifold.and now possible timing chain (also, whats the estimate for timing chain fix)

There are a few guys here who have put many miles on a rattling timingchain.
