I really love my F-150, and it's by far the nicest truck I've ever owned from a comfort and performance standpoint. The Ecoboost is truly an amazing engine in almost every respect. This is the first Ford I've owned, but hopefully this issue doesn't make me go back to Toyota. I really want to keep driving Fords, but I wish they would just get their stuff together.
Just wanted to chime back in and let you guys know that I have yet to hear this noise again. Maybe it was a one time fluke or just my imagination. Keeping my fingers crossed that's the case!

No, I've always had a motorcraft filter in mine.

I had my oil changed last week when the truck was at the dealership using Ford recommended oil and filter. Mileage was 80,207 kilometers. It now has 80,629 kilometers. Every morning this week I have had the rattle noise and every afternoon after work I have had the rattle. So far this week I am batting 100% with the noise after the truck has sat for a prolonged period.

I find it weird that mine has yet to throw any codes with it happening on such a regular basis.

For those who have had the noise for a while does it progressively get worse and will end up happening all the time? Has there been documented cases where the engine finally just craps out?

yes, it gets worse over time. Been a year since my chain was replaced and the rattle comes if the truck sits for just two hours. Sits for a couple of days and the rattle is just frightening and lasts for quite some time.

Mine started end of last Summer...went away completely over the Winter...and then came back when it warmed up. Then got the new chain in March, still rattled. Rattle is coming from top of engine though on mine not the chain

Is the Lucas additive still working for you?

Mine was a daily occurrence too and threw no codes.

Dealer #1 - said my timing was great only out .5 degree despite the noise.
Dealer #2 - said my timing was out 8 degrees, replaced chain.

I'm at 7500km on my 2014 now with about 1100km of it towing so far so good. I changed the oil with synthetic and motorcraft filters at 2500/km and will do another this week before a big trip.

Do you know how they are checking your timing? They're saying I'm out 3 degrees, but the current rattle is worse than when I had the CEL on.

Dealer #1 - Tech sat in truck with me with engine at idle and showed me the PIDS screen on laptop and the VCT_whatever it was. It was fluctuating from .5 to 1.

Dealer #2 - I never saw or verified because it was out-of-town dealer and they had the truck for over 10 days.

I'd like to figure out a way to get torque pro to read the timing.
