Are people that scared of turbochargers? You know, that technology that's been around since the world wars?
While I agree with the sentiment, maybe after all the screwups ford had with the 5.4 they know how to build one that doesn't have issues now!

I know this. I wouldn't own any ford after warranty is gone unless it had been an absolute gem for the first 70, 000 miles.

True, it is way far from the old 351 Windsor/Cleveland cam in block, push rod engines. With the DOHC design, it still has them long timing chains and corresponding parts. Time will tell.

There have been plenty of people with blown 5.slows.
**** happens guys. You all are still in Fords and most of you drove 5.4's with cam issues and **** exhaust manifolds etc.

I've only owned 2 other Fords. A 2000 Explorer basically indestructible! That engine took a beating and never even blinked. Before that I owned, briefly, a 79 Granada!!! THAT was a 5.slow!!!!

Update November 25th 2014

The service manager emailed this morning and said the truck is running great and I should be really happy with the results. I will have it back today or tomorrow.

I'm a little skeptical they've fixed the turbo problem though. I am happy the chain TSB was done. At least I'll get a few days with no startup grind

They replaced:

- Timing Chain TSB (did not do tensioner).
- Replaced my Alternator
- Replaced my Catalytic Converter
- Completed CAC TSB by installing deflector (and CAT)
- Installed new spark plugs

I've owned 4 Ford F-150's. Two of them 5.4's and Two of them Ecoboosts. My First ecoboost was the best running truck I ever had. No problems in 40,000km then I traded for this 2nd Ecoboost and ironically it was the worst running truck I've ever had...

Update November 25th 2014

Got the truck back, it definitely seems to have more low-end torque now. The gas mileage appears worse though... At 120/km per hour on cruise it shows 15.1L/100KM. Before the fix it was 14.2L/100km and my old Eco was 12.9L/100km the only difference being the new truck has 20" rims and not 17".

They did NOT solve the turbo noise issue, I was able to make the groan happen within a block of my house... Already called the service manager he is flabergasted... They did try to make it happen (as evidenced by the KM they put on my truck). I'll start a new thread about that issue to see if anyone can help.

In the meantime though the truck is running.

You are at the point I was at a bit over year ago. Because of the TSB, all you can do is put up with the noise and hope a CEL light appears before the 24 month repair warranty expires.
