So just giving an update on this leak. The other day when it was nice I was able to remove some pieces to get out of the way for a better look. I was able to get a few shots of the leak but cant determine if its coming from the Head Gasket or the Intake Manifold area. These photos are taken from underneath the driver side looking up through the exhaust manifold. My thought is that its coming from above the Head Gasket (Hoping and Praying). I haven't seen any signs of it coming from the Head Gasket like the Milky Residue under the oil cap but of course I don't have the same equipment experts have and just hoping its not that. If you look at these photos it looks to me its coming from above but it could be the metal absorbing some of the coolant and making it look like it comes from above the head gasket not sure. I do know that its coming from this area and all of the common areas a dry to the bone with no sign of leak. I think I'm to the point of having to take it to the shop. The truck was just payed off last year. Seriously Right. Anyways here are the photos.

So, a few months back I had a sudden (and bad) leak at the water pump. I had the water pump and thermostat replaced and all seemed well until I recently noticed my coolant bottle was low again. I refilled the bottle and started looking for the leak. I didn't find any obvious signs of a leak other than it looked wet in the oil catch pan.

I went ahead and ordered the (4) o ring kit from ebay (upper radiator, lower radiator, y connector, and degas bottle). I drained about a gallon of coolant from the radiator and changed the o rings at the upper radiator and y connector only as those are the only two places that would probably be dripping into the oil catch pan. I refilled the coolant bottle to the high end of the "cold full" range and then ran the engine for about half an hour with the heat on high hoping to see if there were still any leaks and to purge any air from the system. I am checking the connections twice a day and have not noticed a leak there or anywhere else but the oil catch pan still looks wet (though I did spill a lot of coolant into that area when I disconnected the hoses). I have also found a small puddle on my parking space at work. The coolant level in the reservoir has now dropped closer to the lower line of the "cold full" range.

Has anyone noticed it taking a while for the cooling system to purge air? I noticed earlier in this thread that @yotehunter mentioned his oil catch pan dripped for several days. I am hoping this is all it is. Otherwise I might have to change the other two o rings and go from there.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread.

Mine coolant level settled down after I made a 400 mile round trip to my cabin and back to my home.

Also check your de-gas {overflow tank} for the slightest of cracks, as my buddy had a crack in his causing a leak.

I also have a leak. Kinda surprised as the truck has been parked for about a month. I have oil pressure issues also and saw coolant while poking around in the engine bay. I have a feeling my coolant is more water that antifreeze, it doesn’t feel slimy but it’s orange in colour.

I read all 54 pages and if I read correctly, I need O-rings in size 4 or 4.5x31 and 4 or 4.5x37 for the T connector. My overflow tank connections are dry and so is the overflow tank itself. The pullies on the front of the block under the T connector have a water mark running down them and those quick connects are wet looking.

Included are pics, please tell me if I’m correct on this.

Im in Canada, the Pegasus kit is not directly available to me. I can’t ship it here from amazon so I will be going the brass fittings and replacement hose route. Has anyone replaced the radiator quick connects and T connector with an aftermarket T, brass fittings and a hose splice?

Thanks in advance.

I just bought the T connector and the O-ring for one of the hoses. Amazon.ca had it for $109, the dealer was $70 and $10. I showed him the pic from amazon and he knew right away. Asked me what year, said it’s the it’s time in a while they’ve had parts in stock and not on back order. He said if it leaks again there’s a 2 year warranty on this part.

The block heater plug eventually leaks on Canadian trucks with the 5.0. It is another cooling system failure point to keep in mind. It has a defective design with an o-ring-sealed heater element that fits inside a collar that screws into the block. The o-ring deteriorates and it causes a slow coolant leak. It is a real struggle to replace because you have to pull the alternator. As far as I could tell, the o-ring is not available separately. I had to buy a new block heater element, only available from Ford. In many parts of Canada (myself included) we use the block heater daily for about 3 months in winter, so it is a necessity; some have just bought a plumbing store plug and screwed it into the block in place of the block heater, which is a cheaper fix in warm weather places.

Thanks F150XTR, I’ll check that spot too. I’m in SW Ontario we only get a week of an extremely cold snap. I see you’re in Calgary so I see why you would want to plug in that long

-32C AGAIN this morning. We've had 5 weeks of this and I am sick of it!! Need the block heater and my Tim Horton's on the drive to work, to prevent personal freeze-up. thank God the days are getting longer.
