Default 2011 5.0 upgrades

I have a 2011 F-150 with the stock 5.0. I want to do some ugrades to get more power out of the stock build. I have been told" all you need to do is upgrade the injectors, put a cold air intake on, and a tuner". with these upgrades i was told i could get 500hp out of it. SO, is there anyone that has done this and what was the result?

  1. larger injectors will buy you nothing, nada, zero, zip. CAVEAT: Unless you add forced induction - supercharger, turbo', etc.
    .
  2. (aftermarket) CAI will add little to no power gains. OEM, stock ...
    • already CAI.
      .
    • CFM exceeds engine requirements/needs. *UNLESS über engine modifications are done.
      .
    • any increase in air flow comes at the expense of filtration.
      .
    • no contaminating the MAF sensor with oil. *Which reduces performance and MPG.
      .
    • Motorcraft, OEM air filters ...
      • meets|exceeds engine air intake CFM requirements.
      • good for 30,000+ miles (depending upon conditions).
      • ABSOLUTELY NO possibility of MAF sensor oil contamination.
      • dispose and replace maintenance.
    .
  3. for performance improvement(s) put your $$$ towards a tuner+tunes. NOTE: This will NOT result in a 140HP increase. More like 25+

Don't know who's doin' the "told" you're getting, but you DEFINITELY need to change tolders.

Whoever told you that doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. If you were to add a SuperCharger yes you'll gain that kind of power.

There is little to do other than forced induction. A tune will improve throttle response and shift patterns but will probably only net you 20hp.

CAI are the most worthless things you can get. The only reason I have the S&B on my 13 Eco is because it was given to me.

Tune, Boss or CJ intake manifold, long tube headers, GT intake/BOSS exhaust cams and valve springs will net you a pretty decent gain. Not 500, but you'll likely crack 400 at the wheels.

Or spend the same amount on a supercharger and make more than that.

haha 500? Bro cmon. I also have 2011 F150 5.0 with MPT tune LT headers True dual Super 10s KNN cai ported manifolds. I'm absolutely no where near 500 - not even 400. But tune headers and ported manifolds were my best mods. True duals and cai are over rated. Cams are a bit expensive for what you would gain. If your serious about power save for forced induction - only then will you hit the 500 mark.

Thanks for the feed back. I am most likely going to go with my original plan. It seems more cost affective to just buy a new 420 HP 5.0L DOHC Aluminator Crate Engine for Supercharged Applications for 9,000 and build from a new motor VS. the original with 90k miles. they only thing i am not sure about is: will the curent wireing harness and cpu work. I have asked some teck guys at the ford dealership and they dont know. GO FIGURE. Have any of you seen this done?
